Event: Mermaids at the Aquarium Who: Open to EVERYONE! What: Mermaids will be visiting the tropical reef exhibit and meeting with fish and guests alike in honor of World Ocean Day at the Aquarium. When: (BACKDATED) June 8th, All Day Where: Metro City Aquarium
World Ocean Day at the aquarium was a huge event. It was also not without controversy. The first year they had a “meet the mermaids” event, they had used specially trained divers in costumes instead of actual mermaids. The local mer population was less than pleased with the results and ended up protesting based on discrimination. The excuse that the group didn’t know of their existence fell on deaf ears. Thus, after sitting down with representatives on both sides, the group came to a satisfactory resolution. Real, actual mermaids and mermen would join in on the event moving forward.
From there, they added on. Instead of just the one day, they added weekends. Elaborate shows were added in. Chefs were flown in and consulted with the mer on various meals to dine with guests and penguins alike. Costumes for the merfolk were created to represent their rich heritage. Sirens were added for a concert. Naiads joined eventually to create a water show.
This year was no different in adding to the magic. Several merfolk had promised to demonstrate magic while others had taught the penguins to tap dance for guests. As always, they greeted everyone with a smile, adoring the adulation.
