He'd been sure the younger man's break was over and he'd be forced to simply leave a voicemail. Nathan didn't mind it would probably be easier than attempting a conversation after all this time.
Just as he'd cleared his throat to leave his message the ringing stopped and Nathan found himself on the other end of a long pause. Well if Peter wasn't going to say anything he wouldn't either. Peter called him. He should've at least said something.
When Nathan finally realized he was being childish he heard Peter's voice. It really had been too long. Now that they were both on the phone what did he say? How did he respond. He vaguely considered responding with something that could be considered witty if looked at a certain way. Since this was Peter though... he probably wouldn't see the humor.
"Yeah, Pete, it's me. You said we needed to talk so I called. I was a little surprised you left a message. Normally I grab my phone after one ring and I just see a missed call and your number or my secretary hands me a piece of paper. I thought this might be urgent. Is something wrong?"
