“He used to use a branch. I imagine it got too heavy for him in his old age,” he replied with a smile and while the conversation was amusing, it would have been even better if Jake was listening. It was nice to know there was still a certain sense of humor that lingered around the stables, but he probably shouldn’t have expected anything less given who was still in charge.
“I know what you mean,” he assured her, and truth be told, he thought it would be just a little on the ha-ha funny scale as well. If it came to that, he wouldn’t mind taking his leave and letting someone else have the position, but he didn’t expect it to actually play out that way. He went back and forth on how many students he thought they would get, but there were probably enough people out there who had no other means of learning that they would risk it, even if they were nervous about returning.
“Well, I suppose I should go find something constructive to do,” he decided as he pushed himself away from the wall. “Thank you for humoring an old man,” he added with an arch of his brows. He did feel a little more relaxed; perhaps it wasn’t that strange to be back here after all.
