She didn’t want him there; it wasn’t a secret…Elena would have preferred to be left alone, instead of saddled with someone who was hell bent on helping her. Tyler wasn’t one of the Salvatore brothers; he’d never been wrapped around her finger, and he didn’t place her above everything else in Mystic Falls. Never had; whether that was good or bad…but he still cared. And more than anyone else in their circle, he knew what it was like to be ostracized. Everyone had turned their back on him when he was sired to Klaus; this was a little different…she’d flipped the switch to get away from the grief. And grief? Yeah, he had more experience with it than he ever wanted to. Now they were stuck in Hell; or supposed to be. It didn’t really feel that way to him. Hell was looking at the manor that had always belonged to his family and realizing that they were all gone. He had been on the run up to this point…why should he feel any different now?

There was Klaus too; he had given Tyler ‘permission’ to come back home. The arrogant son of a bitch. It made his blood boil just thinking about it. The kind of white hot anger that never truly went away. It was why he had doubled back to his apartment to begin with; grab a quick shower, change clothes, try to get his emotions back in check. Because he already knew Elena was going to push his buttons; she liked doing it now…and he wanted to go in there with a cool head, at least to begin with. There was his roommate too; a really attractive brunette, one that he had almost given a heart attack to when she woke up. But that was something that he could deal with later. She seemed nice enough; and he hadn’t tried to be a dick, just had a lot going on in his head, coming and going out of the apartment their shared pretty frequently.

His short hair was still damp as he made his way across the apartment complex; he could have taken the elevator, but Tyler elected on going the long way. Just bracing himself. She was going to bring up Caroline and Klaus. And that? Was a subject that he didn’t handle very well. Part of him just wanted to run outside, let the change happen, and be completely free. It’d be worth the pain; the odds of hurting someone, or killing them, was the only thing that kept it from happening. He knew what room she was in; Elena didn’t even have to tell him, her scent was pretty distinct, easily picked up. Sometimes having a little wolf in you was a good thing. He was walking down the long corridor, arms at his sides, dressed in an under armor shirt and shorts…Tyler had a feeling this was going to get pretty physical.

602. That was where he came to a halt; he knew that Elena was inside, could feel her, just as much as her scent was the strongest there. Probably could have heard her too, if he wanted to listen close. Raising his hand, he knocked loudly against the door, knowing she wasn’t going to just open it. “Lena, let me in.” A second knock followed just a few seconds later. He didn’t hear anyone else; which meant her roommate wasn’t in. She’d only mentioned him in passing; some guy named Roy. Why did it make him jealous? Tyler refused to dive into that question; he had always had a short fuse…it was a little bit better now after everything he had gone through, but not drastically so. Elena was going to do whatever she wanted. She had made that much clear from the get go. But he also knew she tolerated him a lot better than she let on; maybe it was arrogance, but Tyler was pretty certain that if she was going to have to be stuck with someone from Mystic Falls right then, he was going to be her number one choice.

"Fuck you, Lockwood," she shouted back from her place in front of the balcony door. "I'm not letting you in, so go away-" There was a loud thud as his sneaker collided with the so much more fragile wood of the door. It shoo instantly in it's frame, harder than when she'd used everything she had to slam it shut. He wasn't even trying that hard yet. If he had, the door would have been flat on the other side and she'd be staring at the hybrid right now. Instead, she was standing here, holding her breath metaphorically while he slowly dwindled in patience. How long before he just let it all out and broke the door in? Cut it into pieces with his powerful limbs? She guessed seconds, especially if she opened her mouth and started spouting out all the right things that would push those vulnerable and obvious buttons. A smirk formed across her lips and she grabbed her boots, slipping her feet back inside each quickly. After this, she'd need to make a run for it for sure.

"I'm sure they are doing a lot more than talking now," she said loudly, taking a rather bold step towards the wounded door. "He's an original. I bet he knows all sort of moves you never even dreamed of Lockwood. Besides, we all know you're not exactly talented in anything, but brawn and your biceps." Tyler was a jock, a football player, and his brain had nothing on every bit of muscle on his tanned body. If you needed your lunch money back, you went to Tyler. If you lost your lunch money, it was to Tyler. Somewhere along the line, all that muscle sucked up what was left of his brain and now? Now, he was probably as dumb as a bag of rocks with an arrogant, competitive nature to match. When they were kids, things were different, but something happened to Tyler and while Elena had her guesses, no one really knew what made his version of the switch flip.

They did, however, know how it got flipped to nice guy mode and it was because of Caroline Forbes, one of Elena's best friends. The blond vampire brought out the best in him, standing by the werewolf as he went through his first transition. He suddenly became a hell of a lot more human and a lot less ass hole. If he'd been asshole, he wouldn't be knocking on her door like some obsessed lover or just freak. "Why don't you go pound on her door like a freak, obsessed boyfriend?" she continued and then gave an emotionless cackle. "That's if they heard you over all their pounding." Her words barely left her mouth and his fist collided with the door, the sound of the wood splintering filled her ears, and her eyes shot towards the door, slightly more wide and maybe a bit more fearful than before. He hadn't broken through yet, but no doubt he crushed the outside badly. How long would it take before he took the whole thing out?

Elena took a step back towards her future escape route, but his words gave her pause. White knight ulterior motive? Honest? Most would have just gone with bitch and stopped with that. Not him. Maybe he was smarter than she gave him credit for. It was a backhanded way to turn her emotions back on; there was no doubt about it. She folded her arms upon her chest. "Sorry Lockwood. If you want in, you're going to have to break down the door because there is no way in hell I'm opening it for you!" Elena yelled back. "Save yourself the trouble. Go away."

At any moment Tyler could have forced his way inside; he knew that wasn’t lost on her…maybe it was about playing the game, or maybe it was just giving Elena a chance to change her mind. She wasn’t, though. No, she was eager to keep pushing buttons, throwing out carefully constructed sentences with the intention of seeing just how close to the edge that she could get him. He could hear in her tone; Tyler could all but imagine the look on her face as she spoke from inside the (momentarily) safe confines of the part…how her lips would curl, the glimmer of mischief in her eyes…or maybe devious would have been a more apt description. “That’s what you think, huh?” He still sounded fairly calm but it was difficult to know how long that façade would last. “I have more faith in Care than you do…and I know that douchebag isn’t nearly as smooth as he thinks.” Of course all the things that she was saying had entered his mind at one point or another; the doubt, that sick feeling in his stomach as he considered just how real a possibility it could be.

The outside of the door had already taken a fair amount of damage; heavy splintering at the point where his fist had connected…he would have felt bad for her roommate, but that was another cause of unexplainable jealousy, that some guy he didn’t even know was living with the vampire. It wasn’t like Tyler hadn’t earned a reputation either; triple letter varsity athlete, the richest kid in school, academics hadn’t been something he really applied himself towards…but he wasn’t dumb. “You dream about my biceps a lot?” It was easier to taunt her with something as childish as that; at least, easier than dealing with the reality of what she was saying. “Maybe you just don’t know me, Gilbert. Because I know how to use my muscles, what to do with them…I’ve got plenty of moves.”

Emphasizing his point was going to be a lot more fun in this instance; she had given him all the ammunition he needed…Tyler could say as much as he wanted, taunt and tap into arrogance, but it didn’t do anything to quell just how angry he had become. Old habits…sometimes you never really dropped them, no matter how much you tried to improve yourself. Letting out a slow breath, he grit his teeth together, eyes briefly flashing amber, even if she couldn’t see from the other side. “Trouble? Yeah, I wouldn’t exactly call this trouble.” This time when he kicked the door Tyler put a lot more effort into it; there was a loud crack, wood splitting and splintering, metal giving in. He had knocked the door open; it was barely hanging from the hinges now, crooked and misshapen, Elena should consider it a miracle that it hadn’t been kicked flat to the ground…the chair that had been propped against it hadn’t survived his outburst of violence, either.

She was all the way across the apartment, though. Ready to make an escape at the balcony door….a backup plan, which he was kind of figuring on, Tyler was just too stubborn to give up, even if she elected to use it. He stepped inside, almost a challenge….there was pretty much no denying that in this situation, he was the predator and she was the prey. Not that he was going to hurt her; that wasn’t what this was about, not by a long shot. “Seriously, Lena? I know the Salvatores’ didn’t have to go through all of this just to see you.”

Elena rolled her eyes behind the splintered door. Tyler was not the first man to be so overconfident and cocky about his sex appeal and she knew he wouldn’t be the last. “Do they all involve turning, tail between your legs, and running like a wounded animal?” she shot back effortlessly. That right there was bound to get her some points in the bad column for sure, but at the moment, Elena couldn’t care less. Her emotions were flipped and hurling perfectly formed insults at Tyler was just a game to her. No matter what he retaliated with, it wouldn’t matter. She didn’t feel anything anymore. He could call her the whore of Mystic Falls and Elena would merely shrug her shoulders and dole out a few words that could make him see red instantly. It wasn’t like he gave her a lack of ammunition either. Caroline. Klaus. Running away. His mom. His lack of friends. His dumb jock ways. Yes, Elena could go on forever and ever with the insults to Tyler Lockwood and make sure each and every one of them hurt like a knife to the heart. It was that simple.

The smirk on Elena’s face slightly waivered and she took another step back towards the open balcony door. “Walk away, Lockwood,” she yelled back, but her voice lacked a bit of the confidence it held so strongly before. Would he actually break down the door? Bust his way in like some criminal? If it would have been anyone else outside the apartment, she would have said “no” instantly. Tyler just happened to be a bit more destructive then anyone else and deep down, Elena knew he had no qualms about breaking down her door or just smashing it to pieces. Pushing his buttons in every way possible was fun, but she knew all along she’d end up regretting it. The vampire should have made for the balcony right away and never looked back, but she couldn’t help herself. Igniting Tyler’s fury was fun because it was so easy to strike the match and let it burn. She was going to pay for it now. That door was nothing compared to a hybrid’s speed, agility, and most important, strength. He could have it down in a matter of a few seconds; the chair would just be collateral damage.

Another step and Elena was at the threshold of the door, cool wind blowing her brown hair around her face, but she went no further. It could have been because the vampire truly felt no fear at all along with everything else flipping the switch brought upon her. That or she was eager too see how it all played out. The outcome of her needling insults and bitchiness was on the other side of that door; the reaction would be explosive for sure. Before she had a chance to make up her mind, his foot collided with the door, the impact sent it swinging open, the chair demolished at the strike of violence and rage. Her brown eyes caught his own and her stomach twisted; she knew she waited way too long. They were both monsters, but Tyler was the stronger one. Elena was the prey. He could rip her apart if he wanted to, her abilities paled easily in comparison with his own and she knew it all too well. His gaze was furious, rage literally coming off him in waves and he hadn’t even broken a sweat from taking out the door and chair.

“I guess you’re just special. Or I really don’t like you,” she retorted smoothly. “What do you want, Ty?” She mocked his nickname that even now he still carried with him. “Lena” was pretty much extinct except for the hybrid’s use of it and Elena was mildly shocked he remembered it at all and that he so easily wielded it like a weapon. It did nothing, of course. One needed emotions to be wounded, right? “For a knight in shining armor, you’re lacking the armor.” It was a taunt, but also it explained perfectly that she could still cause him more bodily harm if he tried to take her down. She’d go down fighting, kicking and screaming, and biting with some clawing for good measure. “Oh, wait. No. You’re not doing the whole white knight ulterior motive, are you? If you wanted to make Caroline jealous, all you had to do was ask really sweetly. I might have done it.”

"You think you'd be my first choice to make Caroline jealous?" He was standing just inside her apartment now; other people had probably heard the loud sound of the door being broken, but in a place like this, he didn't expect them to investigate. It was what he'd noticed; most of them just kept their heads down, stuck on trying to figure their own way out. "And you were calling me the arrogant one before." Elena had a point; Care was what of her best friends, or...had been, when the switch wasn't flipped. If that had been what he was after, Tyler probably couldn't have picked a better target. She wasn't going to get him to admit as much; he liiked being around her because he didn't hold back. She could be a major bitch, that was pretty much a given, but she also didn't blink when he gave it right back to her. No running and hiding or crying about how wrong it was.

She had a pretty clear cut exit; maybe Tyler could beat her to the balacony door...but probably not. She'd make an escape and he would go jumping after her. More of the game; akin to dog and cat, more than cat and mouse, anyway. "I told you what I want. Repeatedly, you're just not listening." She wasn't going to get rid of him; part of it was some dedication to helping Elena get through what was going on, but even more of it was the fact that she was the only person he wanted to be around right then. Everyone else...he'd deal with them later. If he was going to be forced to take a ride in Hell, he wanted it to be with the vampire standing across the apartment from him, even though she was ready to bolt at any second. "And I'm kind of doubting that you like anything done 'really sweetly' right now." There were splinters all over the underarmor shirt that Tyler had worn over; he didn't feel like picking them out one by one, instead he just peeled it off and threw it down next to the ruined door.

"If you wanna run, that's fine. I could use a work out...pretty bad." He was still angry; despite some of the more playful comments he had made, keeping everything in check was still a struggle. She'd made him kick the door down just to catch a glimpse of her; it had been exhilarating and infuriating at the same time. He didn't see Stefan or Damon having to knock down a door just to see her; Elena was making him jump through all kinds of hoops, and he'd never even been in love with her. Tyler couldn't deny that he was attracted to her; even when she was dating Matt, his best friend, he'd still get in trouble at football practice for staring at Elena, back when she had still been a cheerleader. And...the wolf in him liked the chase.

"Hm. Let me think about it." A finger came up and tentatively touched her lips in feigned deep thought. It was actually a major no brainer in her opinion. "Uh, duh. I think it's the obvious perfect choice." She'd been a best friend to Caroline once upon a time and before the switch was flipped, Elena had been starting to rekindle that relationship again, something they had from their childhood before boys and popularity took it away. If Tyler wanted to hurt the blond, Elena was a perfect choice. It'd just reinforce her underlying belief that all guys wanted Elena and none wanted her. It was total bullshit. She had the king of all douches drooling at her doorstep and his former hybrid minion as an actual boyfriend. Granted, Elena didn't really want Klaus drooling at her doorstep and well, Tyler was, well, Tyler and she was determined to keep it that way even if everything else kind of screamed at her otherwise.

Elena stepped back towards the door, steps hurried, but no less precise. She was going to run, there was no doubt about it. "I doubt you know how to do anything, but play rough, Lockwood," she retorted smoothly. "Unless, well, Caroline probably leashed you up a long time ago, didn't she? 'Sweetly' is all you got left." He wasn't the same major asshole he'd been when junior year started and while a lot of it might have been being a werewolf, a lot of it was Caroline Forbes too. Having a steady girlfriend, someone who loved him and wasn't just obsessed like Vicki, made a big difference. Even after he became a hybrid, one of Klaus's bitches for a good portion of time, he'd still been in love with Caroline, enough to go off into the mountains and break every bone in his body numerous times transitioning into a beast. It was admirable even if the beast inside didn't get to play much.

He pulled his shirt over his head and tossed it down in the splinters from the door and the remnants of the chair she'd used as a weak enforcement earlier. If Elena had her emotions back on, an impressed expression might have been easily displayed on her face. Instead, she laughed. "Look at you. Nice try, but your sex appeal is pointless right now." Braver and bravado got the best of her and she stepped forward, closing the gap between them, a hand coming up and touching his chest. The heat came off him in waves. Elena leaned in and pressed her cold lips to his ear. "Don't you wish I would have ripped it off you instead?" Before he could even react, breathe, she pressed her lips to his in a brief, but rather powerful kiss. "Catch me if you can, Lockwood." Another laugh and playful grin and she was gone, turning and blurring out the balcony door, over the railing and to the street, landing easily without a scratch. Elena took off down the street.

"You've got no idea what I have left," being defiant was in his nature and it was even more so when someone like Elena was trying to call him out on it. There was no point in pretending that his life hadn't been one big mess...for a long time. But that was an apt description for most of Mystic Falls residents now, wasn't it? Something else that Klaus could be thanked for. "There's no leash. I can do anything that I want." It was those digs that bothered him the most; Tyler didn't want to be the person he had been before...selfish, completely arrogant, nothing mattered unless it was able to benefit him somehow. There had been freedom in that, though. Those animal instincts were even harder to deny now than before. Elena Gilbert brought them out in hm; her attitude, the way she looked at him, the inflection of her voice...everything about it just got to him. Created thoughts in his head that he didn't know how to deal with. Wanting to completely dominate her so that she would never so much as raise a question again.

When she closed the distance between the two of them, Tyler didn't know what to think, or what she had planned. His arms stayed down at his sides but he visibly tensed; was it all going to start right then? Maybe part of him wanted it to. The tension was thick in the air; she might not feel it, or ignore it completely...he knew it was there, though. Even her scent had changed ever so slightly; no one else would have picked up on it. Her hand came to rest on his chest; cool, a sharp contrast to how much heat was radiating off his skin. His head tilted to glance down at what she was doing. A bad move on his part; it made it even easier for Elena to whisper in his ear. He wanted to tell her yes; that it was exactly what he wanted. That he would rather grab her and tear her clothes off instead. Tyler didn't though; he breathed out unsteady, it was obvious everything inside of him was fighting having an even more obvious reaction. Then she kissed him; their lips only pressed together for the briefest of seconds, but there had been power behind it. Enough to make the sensation linger. To get just a little taste of her. And then she was gone; disappearing over the balcony, out onto the city streets below.

Catch her if he could? Tyler relished in the challenge; the wolf inside of him wanted to be able to stalk her, track Elena's every movement, corner her until she had no where else to go...no way to get away from him. Closing his eyes, he breathed in deeply, taking in Elena's scent, committing it to memory. No, she wasn't going to get away from him. There wasn't a place in Los Angeles where he wouldn't find her. Displaying the same kind of speed, Tyler vaulted over the railing of the balcony and landed heavily on the street outside. She was going to get him arrested; a half naked man chasing her, looking wild and feral...what did he care? They weren't going to catch him, either. Muscles rippled as he sprung forward, dark eyes alert, looking for any sign of her. "Lena..." His voice was low; almost a growl...he didn't have to speak loud in order for her to hear him. If she was hiding somewhere, he knew the word was still going to reach her. "You think I'm going to give up...I'm not. You picked the wrong person. I'm a wolf...I want the chase." Even if he considered himself the predator, it didn't mean Tyler had every advantage. His heart was pounding in his chest; beating wildly...the sound enough to give him away to any vampire. Droplets of sweat still slid down his broad back.

Though Elena was already three blocks away, her sensitive hearing picked up the sound of her own name, a mere growl on the wind. Knowing the danger, Elena still smirked to herself in the darkness. It was amazing how a few choice words could be the strongest, most potent weapons of all. Especially when they were applied to someone with such a short, vulnerable and obvious fuse. Tyler's temper was well known throughout Mystic Falls, along with his cockiness, overconfidence, and being a dick. He didn't hide it or keep it in check much until Caroline had taken a more permanent spot in his life. The temper was still prominent though and with no humanity to stop her, to engage the conscience, Elena had no reason to stop either.

"Come and get me, Lockwood. Come and get me," she whispered back to him. Much like her, his hearing was enhanced and no matter how light she'd said the words, the challenge, Tyler could hear it. He wouldn't back down now. Like he said, he was a wolf and much like the predator buried within him, he was keen and up for the chase. Elena was a predator too, but in the realm of supernatural killers, she was definitely on the bottom compared to Tyler. Tyler was Klaus's first hybrid and had the combination of both a wolf and a vampire running through him. However, Tyler was a wolf first and that part was always the most strong and most powerful. Him hunting her down was only going along with that line of thought and nothing else.

She waited a pace, a moment more, and then she took off. The streets were vacant, empty of most, if not all people. Elena could run and keep running without stopping. A blur. He might have had all the strength, but Elena could hear his heart beat and she could tell when he was getting too close. The only problem? There were other humans, other living things with heart beats and she couldn't really distinguish between the sets all around her. The best chance she had was that Tyler's was a bit more strong, louder, no matter where he was in the city. It had to be the wolf in him, but even then, Elena had to stop and listen carefully to distinguish it. It put her behind and made her more vulnerable. In the end, she just kept running. If she stopped, he would catch her. He was faster, a bit older, and a lot stronger. In catching her, Tyler would make her pay for all the little remarks and while she had a mixture of curiosity and fear, though she tried to squelch both, Elena didn't want to get caught. At least, not easily.
