The generation before Doc had been trained in a similar manner; thrown into the thick of things. But that was mostly on account of there not being very many facilities that could offer the proper education. And, of course, there was the cost. Doc had been fortunate enough to be born of a relatively well-to-do family who could support a child wanting to go into a medical profession. Naturally, his father would have preferred that Doc made himself more of a gentleman by building up the farm to an established plantation. But that had never been in the cards for him.
"Well, if you have any questions, I'd be mighty open to sharing what knowledge I have. Including whatever it is I might be able to recall from my school days. And perhaps we could even expand upon your mentor's book with a few others, courtesy of the library. It would be a shame for you to stop learning on account of your new location."
Doc lifted his shoulders in a slight shrug as though to say it was just an offer. He would leave it on the table, so to speak, and Anders could do with it what he would.
