While Gretel was somewhat glad to see the hotel seemed relatively normal when she woke early after the change, she'd been there far too long to assume anything but the worst, especially on certain weeks. As she always did on the first day after a jump, she rose early and progressed through the very familiar halls, one floor at a time to see if she could gain a sense of what had changed, if anything, and what they had coming.
It was her routine, her way of providing warning to the rest of the hotel's captives, considering she had been stuck there the longest. Also because of that fact, it kept her sane; it gave her a purpose in the face of everything else. She also checked the PDA list for familiar names, or absent ones, after she'd done a full round from top to bottom of the place, so she wouldn't be distracted by the possible loss of friends (or those she'd grown to love) until her self-driven purpose was fulfilled.
Coming down the main staircase, she paused at the first hint of something outside the ordinary; a series of clangs that could only be one thing: the elevator had snared someone. She'd heard it more times than she wanted to count. What she didn't expect- and what nearly sent her tripping down the stairs from a shock that felt more heartache than surprise- was the familiar slew of curses in an even more familiar voice rising from under the bangs. She stared, caught in half-breath and a stare into the elevator cage from the other side, with eyes that screamed both elation and an underlying terror for more reasons than one.
