Despite the noise in the hallways, thankfully their room was relatively secluded from the random organ music, shrieking laughter, and otherwise strange goings-on in the rest of the hotel. Vlad had not enjoyed his time outside the room, so Judith and Erik had spent most of yesterday wandering around the paths in the woods outside; they'd been cooped up, too, and though the limited visibility and occasional odd noises in the mist, the German shepherd's heckles were rarely raised. Judith trusted the dog's instincts; she wasn't as tense about it all as she could have been.
That night, she and Erik fell asleep tangled in each other as usual; her sleep was interrupted by the typical flashes of memories and nightmares, fueled by the thunder of a vicious storm that raged outside the windows. Thunder didn't necessarily scare her- it made her nervous. Storms drew walkers out of their corners or holes; the thunder drove them crazy, and the rain made them hard to see- especially at night.
She woke up with an edge to her nerves that settled almost immediately, mostly from the warm weight of Erik's arm around her middle, and feeling his breathing against her back. There were also a pair of soulful brown eyes staring at her from a foot away from the bed; Vlad, seeing his person was awake, huffed and inched forward to lay his big head on the bedding. Judith sighed quietly, rubbing the dog's ears and prepared to drag herself out of bed to take him outside.
Having had no need for clothes when they went to sleep, having none on when she slipped out from Erik's grip and the covers didn't even enter her mind. Only when she opened the wardrobe to find them gone did she pause. Where her canvas pants, tank top, and leather jacket always reappeared overnight were now ...things that weren't just not hers, but also possibly not clothing at all. This wouldn't be the first time the hotel decided to steal their belongings and force them to play dress-up, and it wouldn't be the last.
"Erik..." she calmly called to him over her shoulder. Dad had said something about costumes for Halloween. ...here they were.
