"But that is what makes it all the more difficult. I believe that the Force is everywhere, surrounding all living things, and existing beyond the realms of a single universe. I have always felt that it was the glue that bound everything together regardless of time and space. But it's almost nonexistent here. How can that be true if my faith in the Force is to be believed?"
Obi-Wan's entire world revolved around the Force. Dolores would understand that better if she chose to read his book. He was taken from his family as an infant and raised in the Jedi Temple; raised in the ways of the Force and the ideals of the Republic. When he was proficient enough he took to training others like himself, who would go on to train more, and more. It was a cycle that was never supposed to be broken. A long lineage of unrelated souls joined together in the power of the Force. A lineage that was all but completely broken now. And with Obi-Wan here, in this unfamiliar place, it might have been lost forever.
He could feel the emotions surging inside of him, striving to bubble over like a forgotten pot of water on high heat. And he was struggling in ways he hadn't struggled in a long time. Fighting to keep those emotions subdued. It was, after all, a quick and slippery slope to the Dark Side. And not even Obi-Wan was immune to its suggestive nature.
But for the most part, he did well to hide his feelings and keep his emotions in check. Right now, however, with Dolores doing her best to offer him comfort, he was more an open book than the thousands of pages in the library.
"I would be glad if you did read it. I would welcome the comfort in knowing that someone else understood my world. I can't promise you that I make for the most interesting protagonist, but I think it has the makings of a good story."
Full of adventure, conflict, danger, and maybe just a little bit of romance. As much as Obi-Wan would ever allow, that is.
Obi-Wan nodded when she gave him permission to read her books. He wouldn't deny that he was curious about her. There were many things about Dolores that he wanted to know and understand, but he had the feeling that after reading Luke's story he would need the rest of the week to reflect on what he'd learned about himself and the future of the Jedi.
