Two new characters?! WHAT IS THIS MADNESS. (No seriously what.)
Right, so, the Quirkes!
Maeve is 35 (Ravenclaw 1984) and a Senior Healer on the Spell Damage floor at St Mungo's. She's lived in Helga's Hill for a while, and is pretty much your ideal neighbour -- quiet, polite, etc. She mostly keeps to herself, but she's a good listener and she'd never turn away anyone who came to her with a problem. (Which happens pretty often, given her calm presence and air of Healer/patient confidentiality.) She's very good at practical advice and sorting out other people's lives. Her own? Not so much.
Orla is a Ravenclaw of 2001, so the second youngest character in game. She went off the rails a bit after the war and eventually got suspended from Hogwarts in March 2001 for dealing Gillyweed. She was very nearly expelled, but McGonagall agreed she could come back in the summer to take her NEWTs. So, Orla's parents packed her off to stay with Aunt Maeve in the hopes that Orla couldn't get into any trouble in a quiet Welsh town... HOW WRONG THEY WERE.
Orla met Orpington and completely forgot about studying after he charmed her with promises of a job at Calliope Heights. (Her motive is that she didn't get the exam results she wanted, so her future is looking a bit stunted. Also, no one fucks with her.) He also supplied her with illicit potions, then used that to blackmail Maeve into doing him a favour. Maeve certified that a landowner was in his right mind when he sold his land to Orpington, even though he'd just been in a duel and sustained a head injury, so clearly wasn't. (Her motive is that she would lose her job and her reputation for acting so unprofessionally if this got out.)
Orla's been living in Knockturn Alley since last summer. She went to the C&F open auditions but didn't get a role. She managed to score an internship at the WWN, but was recently sacked, so now she's back living with her aunt. Unlike Maeve, Orla is NOT an ideal neighbour. :P She's messy, loud, and insensitive -- think smoking in common areas, slamming doors at 4am, possibly being sick in the stairwell... SORRY. I'm sure she does have some redeeming characteristics... buried deep down... :| ANYWAY she's supposedly looking for a new job (but not really) while Maeve is trying not to have a nervous breakdown.
So there you have it! The long-suffering Healer and her wild-child niece. Friends/enemies/exes/plot???

Hello and welcome to the first annual Helga's Hill Awards! I'm Becca and I'll be your host tonight. Before we begin, I'm going to say a few words so please bear with me. I'd like to say thank you, first and foremost, for so many, many reasons. Thank you for being the most creative, hilarious, kind, giving group of players that a mod (or a fellow player, or a friend) could ever ask for. Thank you for sharing your genius and your bright ideas and your complex characters with me. Thank you, also, for your patience, for your understanding, for your friendship, and for your dedication. This game would not still be going if it were not for all of you and I want you to know how deeply and profoundly aware of that I am. Thank you for an amazing year, may this celebration live up to a fraction of its brilliance and fun. And here's to another year and hopes of a Helga's Hill Awards ceremony in 2015.

Well, I've only written an intro post eight times before...moving on!
This is Oliver Wood! His character sheet is here. His motive for murdering Orpington has been pretty much detailed in Rory's intro. Yes, Rory is his little sister, and they share a flat, and he basically is responsible for looking after her after the tragic death of their parents. Boo.
Anyway, what's he been up to? Well, technically he's always been a Puddlemere United player, but for the last two seasons he's been out on loan to Heidelberg Harriers because he was getting frustrated at not being automatic first choice Keeper at Puddlemere and the Harriers could give him more playing time. So he's been doing great in Europe, but now he's been recalled because Puddlemere's having an injury crisis and they need him desperately. Yay!
No, he doesn't speak any German despite living there for like a year and half. But he's a big fan of their cuisine and would probably have sausages for every meal if he could. And potato dumplings. And beer.
Where are you likely to find him in HH? Probably the Fitness Centre, or the Salty Badger, Live to Tell the Kale, Higher Grounds. He sticks clear of the unhealthy food joints!

HI YES I'M CRAZY THANKS MOVING ON.
This is Rory. She is the youngest character in game as a Gryffindor '01. (Don't worry, she still managed to be around for the Badger Festival and, frankly, she WISHES she'd been the one to murder Orpington.)- So, yes, Gryffindor of 2001. She also plays Keeper like Wood the Elder, but can play the other positions decently, too. She was a bit of a late bloomer in Quidditch, so was only a Reserve in the Harry years. After the war, however, she captained for her 5th, 6th, and most of her 7th year. If you were on her team during that time she probably made you get up obscenely early and do wind sprints. Because Wood.
- Like many younger siblings she kind of rebelled against her older brother's personality to create her own. So, while they're both Quidditch mad, Rory replaces Oliver's affability with sarcasm and eye rolling. She can also get very impassioned and shout a lot. But she's energetic (REALLY energetic) and a lot of fun if you can keep up with her!
- She spent the year under the Carrows instigating confrontations with the IS and Professors and getting herself into lots of trouble. She tried to sneak back for the battle but Alicia caught her and shoved her back through the portrait hole. Humph.
- Her parents died in the war so Oliver became her guardian after that and she continues to just sort of live in his flat and let him pay for things because he's rich and her job sucks.
- Why does her job suck, you ask? Why isn't she a pro-Quidditch player? WELL. That can be laid at Orpington's door. Last year when she was home for Easter hols she started developing symptoms of Dragon Pox. Oliver rushed off the apothecary to get a potion which keeps the symptoms from reaching full bore if taken within the first few hours. BUT Orpington was there buying his hair potions or whatever and INSISTED his giant order be filled first. So Rory got Dragon Pox, missed a bunch of school (hence being around for the festival), had to coach her team to Quidditch Cup glory from the bench, and still wasn't back in shape in time for her pro-trial. So, GOOD RIDDANCE, ORPINGTON. And she'll be ready for tryouts next year.
- Her sucky job is being a shopgirl at BeStitched which is Helga's Hill's local craft store. It specifically focuses on knitting, crocheting, and embroidery but also carries other crafty things. And serves as the gossip hub for the town. You can imagine how much Rory loves sitting around while gossipy bints stitch and bitch all day. SO MUCH So, friends! Enemies! Brother's friends! Former players! Give me plotz.

This is a little random! I'd been wanting to do something like this for awhile and yesterday was National Siblings Day (a completely made up holiday) in the States... so I'm using that as an excuse!! Hi guys! There seems to be a lot of stress regarding the voting for the Helga's Hill awards (the Helgas? The Hillies?) so I wanted to clear some things up! 1. Please don't worry about anyone judging you for your votes! Only I am going to see them and I promise I don't care. You could vote against every single one of my characters in every category and I would not be offended. Otherwise it is a completely secret ballot so just vote for who you want to (even if you play them)!
2. You do not need to vote in every category if you don't want to. If there is a category where you just can't choose, leave it blank! Enough other people will vote for a decision to be made!
3. I don't care how active or inactive you've been lately! OBVIOUSLY. You're still a member of this community and you get a say!
4. Just remember that this is for FUN. If it is stressful, it isn't doing its job! I hope this helps! Now go vote.

Hi, I'm back and I also have Dean with me. Dean is... basically the perfect man. He's funny and he's sensitive and just basically awesome. You can read his app here or if you want more, I have a longer bio here from another game. He is crashing on Seamus' couch right now because he thinks his mate needs company, but he will eventually move out. He'll also be working for Angelo's pizza as a delivery boy, so look out for him there. Dean's motive for killing Orpington is a tad elaborate - Orpington was basically responsible for the death of Dirk Cresswell, inadvertently, and one night Dean overheard him talking about this in the pub and pulled out his wand on him in anger. This action led to him being a suspect in the case.

We're going to have a (first annual?) Helga's Hill awards! I've made a list of categories and I'd like you guys to comment with your nominees! Then in a week or so I will post a ballot and everyone can vote. And then we'll have an awards post! This is meant to be all in good fun and just another way to appreciate one another!

This ruggedly handsome chap right here is Charlie Weasley. Still studying and working with dragons, still single despite his mother's exasperation.
Last year he came to Wales to consult with other dragonologists on the impact of the Calliope Heights project (dropping in on the Badger Festival while he was here, naturally) and now the Llewellyn Reservation have offered him a position which is both a promotion from the one he held in Romania and allows him to further his studies.
But he doesn't have anywhere to live yet, so for the moment he's crashing on George and Verity's couch. But as his sister-in-law's baby bump expands, the flat is going to start feeling smaller, so we'll see how long that lasts!
He wasn't as school with many people in the village and he's spent most of the last ten years in Romania, so he'll be looking to meet some locals. :D

Gwen and Terence are getting married today in Ceridwen's Grove just outside of town. Don't worry, Terence paid for lots of warming charms to keep everyone warm. Issy, Tristan, and Ronnie were bridesmaids.
