WHO: Andrei Capper, possibly Felicity, Heidi, Sasha, Sabina, Jennie and Gabe within earshot, and anyone else who wants to be in that vicinity. WHERE: from the Salty Badger, down Badger Den Rd, up to Felicity’s building. WHEN: Friday, Dec 6, 2001. Late evening.
Andrei stumbled out of the Salty Badger, feeling both on top of the world and also like he’d enjoy lying down and not moving for a while. Some fresh air would clear his head. He set off toward his house.
Life was OK. He didn’t care about Romilda’s new boyfriend once he’d gotten over the shock. Why shouldn’t she have a little fun? Not too much fun. But a little fun. The amount of fun just below the level before he’d be totally erased from her memories, because, well, “why would I need those anymore?”
Of course, Helga’s could get smashed by Hogsmeade tomorrow, but while he was sure he’d be upset about that, Katie was the captain so he didn’t feel like he’d have to get upset on behalf of the whole team. He’d just get upset for himself. The correct level of upset. Or, you know, they could pull off a stunning victory. Truly a Christmas miracle and a very good excuse for drinking too much again.
He paused outside his building. He looked across the street. Felicity was over there. Felicity. He looked up at her window. Felicity. Was there a light on? Yes, there was!
He ran across the road and burst into song.
I have often walked down the street before But the pavement always stayed beneath my feet before
He jumped onto the base of a lamppost and clung to it, swinging around.
All at once am I Several stories high Knowing I'm on the street where you live
Are there lilac trees in the heart of town? Can you hear a lark in any other part of town? Does enchantment pour out of every door? No, it's just on the street where you live
He jumped off and ran right up to the front door, looking straight up.
And oh, the towering feeling Just to know somehow you are near The overpowering feeling That any second you may suddenly appear
She did not appear. He jumped onto a bench.
People stop and stare They don't bother me For there's no where else on earth That I would rather be
Let the time go by I won't care if I Can be here on the street where you live
And Andrei meant it. He was on the street, he didn’t care for anything else. Why, he could just sleep on this bench right now. He was on the street, that was what was important. Not the cold. Or the chance of snow. Or the remote possibility that during the night wolves would descend to roam.
That last one probably wouldn’t happen. He lay his head down.
