Mallory didn't trust him in the slightest. In everything that she was, from the expression on her face to the way she was standing, it was completely evident that she expected the worst of him. As soon as they had their backs turned, she was convinced he was going to attack.
Mason approached them, first looking over to his mother then over to the vampire. She looked ready to say something, but he beat her to it. "If you're not looking for a fight, then neither are we," he said, perhaps a little too quickly for it to come off as confident as he meant for it to. She didn't seem pleased with his answer, and glared hard at the vampire instead.
