"No trick," Ainsley said. He carefully folded his cloth in half then used the other side to polish the bar again, delaying his time near the wolf. He couldn't read the text message from his point of view, but he didn't need to. Surely the entire pack knew of his existence by now. "Do what you think you have to do, but I'm telling you you don't."
He moved away then, going about his job. Either the kid believed him or he didn't. He probably didn't, but talking wasn't going to do the trick. Ainsley was simply going to have to try to survive whatever might come his way tonight. Maybe if the alpha arrived, he (or she) could be talked into reason. Doubtful, but he'd have to try. He couldn't afford a fight. He'd have to let his carefully constructed guard down just to survive, and he doubted he'd be able to get it back up without feeding. And he wasn't going to do that.
