Ainsley's upper lip lifted in a snarl, exposing one fang. An automatic reaction to the challenge that Ainsley himself actually had no intention of meeting. He focussed hard on keeping it to that, on not letting his eyes darken, on not taking one single leap to cross the pit between the sides of the bar.
It took him several seconds to realise his name was being called. Or rather, his fake name that he'd assumed for this job. And several seconds was far too long for his manager's liking.
"McDeere. Oi! Fucking flirt on your own time. Get that glass off the floor before we're facing action."
Ainsley put everything he had into not growling, giving only a nod and a brief glance towards the manager.
A hand slapped loudly on the bar. "Now, McDeere!"
A little growl did escape then, but it might pass for a frustrated human noise rather than the primal sound it was. He looked at the wolf one more time and cocked one eyebrow, but then moved back to his haunches and started in on the menial task once more.
