Summary: Harry is sent to the file room. A file catches his eye and history catches up with both of them.
A/N: I am so very very sorry to be so late on this. It is now 1 minute to midnight... so, err, still kindasorta Thursday... or not. Also - unbeta'd.
As always, I'd love to hear what you think.
Harry had been in the file room for far too long as far as he was concerned. They'd received a tip that had required research on the background of the case. As he paged through file after file, he became more upset. There was a reason they had trainee Aurors.
Shouldn't his status as the Boy-Who-Lived-To-Defeat-Voldemort or whatever sodding title they'd awarded him lately give him some perks? Perks like not having to sit in this dusty room looking though old case files? Just as he forced yet another one back into the drawer, the file four files behind it caught his eye.
Case 68147-H - Dumbledore, Albus
Harry's hand shook as he opened the file. Within it was a Wizarding photograph that moved as Dumbledore smiled at the camera and then looked at the head table at Hogwarts. Harry found himself mesmerized as it moved, again and again.
He finally pulled himself away from the photograph and the happy memories that seeing Dumbledore flinging his arms wide in welcoming brought. Within the file were details of Dumbledore's death and the resulting investigation. Photographs of Snape, Narcissa, Greyback, Remus and Draco all caught his eye.
It was the last that he focused on. Draco looked so young in the photograph until he made eye contact with the camera. His eyes looked old, as if the world had been too much for him. Constantly repeating itself, Draco looked to the side before making eye contact and then sighing before looking to the side once more.
Keeping the photo on the top of the pile, Harry delved deeper into the file. There were details of interviews and evidence gathered. The number of dead and captured Death Eaters, the number of dead Order members, the wands seized and the details of Dumbledore's injuries from his fall from the Tower were all in there.
The details brought back memories of the helplessness Harry had felt as he'd watched Draco refuse to kill Dumbledore and Snape burst through to do the job instead. From there, it was an easy transition into memories of the danger to the students from the Death Eaters within the school. He hadn't had time to give in to fear. Instead, even now, he could feel his heart thudding against his chest as he raced after Snape and Draco.
"Find something, Harry?" Draco's voice startled Harry out of his memories.
"Nothing relating to the case. Just some old… history." Harry put everything back into the file and started to thrust it back into the tight drawer.
"Anything interesting?" Draco asked as Harry shoved against the top of the folder repeatedly.
"No, it's nothing. Nothing at all." Harry's voice trembled a bit and he couldn't understand why he was nervous. They'd discussed this, worked through it. It was history, ancient history.
"Don't lie to me, Potter. It's important enough that you're trying to hide it from me. What history are you looking at?" Harry felt Draco behind him before he heard him cross the room. "Oh."
"Yes, oh." Harry pushed against the file again but Draco stopped him.
Moving Harry's hand away, Draco pulled out the file and flipped through it.
"We look young, don't we?" A photograph of them in their Seeker's uniforms while they glared at each other was pinched almost negligently between Draco's fingertips.
"Draco, this isn't the correct file. Just put it back and we'll go upstairs and I'll explain that I couldn't find the data." Harry reached for the file but Draco pulled it back with one hand while smacking Harry's hand away with the other.
"I never knew they thought that." Draco started flipping through the interviews.
Harry didn't know how long he stood there as Draco looked. All he knew was that the balls of his feet started aching a bit, as did the backs of his calves.
Finally, Draco put everything back into the file with a methodical calm that Harry knew was forced. The file went into the drawer with far more care than Harry had shown it. The door slid shut slowly and deliberately.
Before Harry could register Draco moving, he suddenly found himself with an armful. Draco's lips latched onto his with a desperation that he couldn’t help but respond to. Harry hadn't forgotten about the file but Draco needed this so he kissed Draco back.
"Shirt." Draco muttered against Harry's lips before it was suddenly ripped off of him. "Better."
Harry hoped they could find the buttons to his shirt as he still had a meeting with Merryweather about the results of his search. That was the last cognizant thought he had as Draco suddenly dropped to his knees while opening Harry's trousers. Draco sucked in the head of Harry's cock while gripping the base firmly.
It was far too sudden but it felt wonderful. Harry leaned his head back until it rested against one of the filing cabinets. The sucking noises echoed in the small room. Draco was desperate and needy.
That thought had Harry pulling Draco off his cock and lifting him to his feet.
When Draco protested, Harry said, "Not like this, Draco."
He followed that statement up with a gentle kiss as he sucked Draco's bottom lip into his mouth. The resulting moan had Harry biting down just a bit as he sucked it further into his mouth. The kiss grew until tongue touched tongue.
From there, it wasn't long before they were touching and stroking without a thought or a care as to where they were. When they'd finished and were sweaty and sticky in the aftermath, Harry leaned forward until they touched forehead to forehead.
"I don't care, do you understand? I don't care." Draco twisted his head until he lipped at Harry's chin.
"I know, Harry. I don't know what I did to deserve you but I'm grateful every day, even when I'm being a prat." Draco must have felt Harry's smirk because he added, "Or you are on a daily basis."
