The fact that she didn't fight or hassle Joseph about closing her eyes spoke to the amount of trust that had been built between the two of them last year and half. God, has it been that long already? Emma thought, astonished. Marveling on that, the former hunter closed her eyes. As she did so, Emma reminded herself that the man she heard move to stand in front of her to take her hands in his wasn't going to sucker punch her.
Brent had done that on more than one occasion, usually sometime after she'd made some sassy remark in response to something he'd said. However, Brent wasn't the only one in their relationship to throw punches; Emma had pulled her fair share, too, and that had always been the nature of their relationship: Volatile. They could never agree on anything without fighting about it first. At least that was the case until Emma realized how unhealthy and damaging it could be for the child growing in her. Initially, when she'd stopped her budding relationship with Joseph, it wasn't because he'd been a junkie, but because he'd omitted the information; Lying, in her book. It lead to her thinking that men never changed— Something that Brent had said he'd do... and never really delivered on. That, coupled with the slaughter of the lycan family... Well, the rest was history.
Upon hearing that Joseph had even cleaned up the Legos caused a laugh to bubble forth as Emma recalled the last time she'd slept over. A trip to the bathroom ended in a string of muttered curses after she'd stepped on the very items that had been cleared away for the evening.
"The bottoms of my feet thank you for that!" She quipped back with a voice full of mirth.
