She'd heard his voice. He sounded so close. "Tyler?" She called as she ventured down the long and looming hallway. She hadn't remembered this part of the house being here before. "Tyler?" But it couldn't be Tyler. He was dead, gone. Her heart felt pain she thought she'd never recover from when he had been killed. She still felt it, even now. But...what if part of Tyler was still here somehow? She knew it was stupid, but sometimes believing in stupid things saved you.
"Caroline.." the voice called, from down the hall. "Hurry." It was unmistakably the voice of Tyler Lockwood. Caroline's confusion was growing, but she followed the voice down the hall to a large red door that was engraved with some kind of symbols. "This...wasn't here before." She stared wide eyed for a moment, and then turned around, thinking she'd seen something or someone behind her.
"This is the secret, Care...the reason we're all here. The reason I died." Tyler's voice was low, but it wass if he was standing right next to her. Caroline could almost feel him there, and she had to fight back the tears she felt, swelling to the surface. "The house...it needs us." His voice seemed to be fading. "I don't have a lot of time, you've got to warn people...it feeds on us, our energies, desires, fears...it can be whatever it wants to be, but right now it's a house. People are going to die, Care. I'm sorry." And then in an instant, he was gone. She couldn't feel him anymore, couldn't hear him anymore.
"Tyler!" She called, pleading with her hybrid lover to return to her. "Tyler!" But all she got was silence in return. She reached for the door, it felt hot to the touch and seemed to burn her hand. She pounded on it with both fists and was thrown backwards for what seemed like forever. When she finally landed, she was in bed, and she sat up with a start.
Had it all been a dream?
