Some things in life never did change no matter how you wished them to. Feelings. Habits. Acts. The loves of the past would forever haunt them; wounds often only turned to scars that never fully disappeared. And the ways of how they were raised were ingrained no matter how time changed around them. Yes some things never changed…and Dimitri was both grateful and angered by that fact. But no matter the emotions, it was the truth. All he could do was accept and move forward. Anything else would simply trap him in some endless cycle and he had no time or want for that. He doubted that his sister did either.
But that didn’t mean they couldn’t hang onto bits of the past. Memories worth holding to. “Perhaps we will just have to see to having our entire library copied.” Dimitri offered with a faint smirk as he glanced about the room. Some of the older books they already had to have someone come in and copy word for word. But even those newer copies faded with time. Slowly the pages wore down to nothing and the process had to be repeated. “Perhaps a few times…” extra sets of those beloved books. “Though it’s never really the same is it?” a mimic of a book fallen apart with time. The smell was never the same, the pages always felt different. Try as they might to copy something treasured it truly never measured up. Seemed a fitting description for much anymore.
Dimitri spared little time in taking them out of the condo however, and even less lingering about the Towers halls. He could have stayed a bit speaking with residents or checking in but that was not where his focus was tonight. Or his concern for that matter. He needed out, even if just for a few hours. He needed the time with his family; to help distract his mind far better then the work seemed capable of accomplishing lately. But the quick movements didn’t still his manners, nothing truly did. Nor did it change his sisters own.
There had been a few choices of restaurants for tonight’s meal. Canlis always had suburb food and great atmosphere. Or Dahlia Lounge which always had a rich feel to it. There was also Il Terrazzo Carmine which was a favorite of Dimitri’s. But what he had settled on was the Columbia Tower, since arriving in Seattle he had become a member and often went to the top to enjoy not only the view but the well prepared food. “I reserved us a room at the Columbia Tower, I thought it would give us a better chance to talk.” As there would be no one else around truly except waiters. “And it is difficult to beat the view from there.” And a good view with good food and matching wine…it made for a good night.
“It has been awhile since I have been there.” He remarked as he started up the car and started out of the garage, soon leaving the towers behind him as well as so many thoughts he did not wish to have right now. Or at the least, that was the idea. Who knew how it would work in reality however. “My guess is that it has been for you as well?” he questioned, glancing over at her as they stopped at a red light. It was not that long of a trip to the location, though always taking the few elevators up to the very top of the building took a little time.
