Eyes that green should be a sin, he thought as hesaw the beautiful man cast a quick disdainful glance in his direction. He was surprised that he didn't drop dead whenever theavada-kedavra-colored eyes met his own. He was sure that it wouldhappen one day, though. Someday in the future those gorgeous green eyeswould finally kill him. As of now those eyes were already killing himslowly every time they were aimed in his direction. Draco could donothing but await their final blow.
He was so preoccupied withhis thoughts that he jumped when he heard a baby start to cry. Helooked around for the source and was shocked to see Mrs. Weaselyhanding over a bundled baby to Harry Potter. Draco watched entranced asHarry's face softened and he cooed at the baby. The baby instantlystopped crying and a small hand reached out of the blanket to grip atone of Harry's fingers.
That can't be Potter's... can it? When did he have time to procreate? Draco thought as his eyebrows furrowed in confusion. Wait... does that baby have green hair?Draco had no time to contemplate the answer as a smartly dressedministry official had walked into the hallway announcing that the trialagainst Draco Malfoy was about to begin.
The ministry was stillin complete chaos and Voldemort had been dead for 3 months. KingsleyShackelbot had been made the minister, by default, and he disliked theposition. Some living members of the Order of the Phoenix were handedthe job of trying any Death Eaters or Voldemort Supporters. DracoMalfoy doubted that he stood any chance of walking out of the courtroomin anything other than shackles, given the fact that he bore a slowlyfading dark mark and the known prejudice of the jury.
He stoppedat the door, which had closed promptly after the official had made hisannouncement, and turned back to look at Harry. Harry was futilelytrying to give the baby back to Mrs. Weasley but the baby keptscreaming every time Harry tried. Harry finally gave up and simplywalked towards Draco still holding the child. He nodded at Draco curtlyand Draco opened the door, allowing Harry and the bundle to enterbefore him.
Draco placed a hand against his forehead, checkingfor any sign of a fever. He was obviously seeing things as the baby'sgreen hair had appeared to change from green to blond right before hiseyes. He shook his head wearily before taking a seat next to Harry.
Theysat in silence for a few minutes, waiting for the trial to start. Afaceless Auror called Draco up to the stand. He flashed a partial smileat Harry hoping to get some reassurance, but Harry's emotionless faceand curt nod did nothing to settle the buldgers flying around in hisstomach. Draco sat down slowly adjusting his robes and making themimpeccable. He was, after all, still a Malfoy.
Draco lookedaround the room and let his cool mask of indifference slip, deciding itwould be better if he showed some of his emotions. Draco regretted hisactions during the war. He regretted siding with Voldemort and lettingthe Death Eaters into Hogwarts. He regretted the months that he spentin Malfoy Manor surrounded by the Dark Lords followers. Draco regretteda lot of things. None of which he could change as the past would alwaysbe the past.
Another faceless Auror listed Draco'stransgressions one by one. He asked Draco if they were true or not andDraco could only answer that they were. Then he asked the Wizengamotand the one other person in the room, who happened to be carrying ababy, whether anyone would speak in his defense.
For oneterrifying moment Draco thought that Harry had changed his mind and wasnot going to speak in Draco's favor. Harry stood up slowly and walkedtowards Draco. Draco tried not to let his defenses drop further, itwould do no good for Harry to see how nervous and excited Harry's nowwarm expression had on him. He had no idea if he was successful, therewas a flash of something in Harry's eyes before Harry made a move tooffer the bundle to Draco. Blinking in confusion Draco took the babyfrom Harry's outstretched arms and cradled them in his own. Harry'ssmile widened briefly before he nodded almost imperceptibly at Dracoand turned to face the Wizengamot.
The baby squirmed in Draco'sarms and Draco looked down in surprise. He had forgotten that he washolding the baby. The baby looked up at Draco and reached a hand towardhim. Draco gave the baby a finger which the baby grasped forcefully.Smiling down at the baby Draco took in the baby's features. He hadblond hair as light as his own, green eyes the same shade as Harry's, awell-defined almost pointy bone structure (for a baby anyway), and lipsthat looked suspiciously like Harry's as well.
This baby could be mine and Harry's love child,he thought and gasped. Harry turned to look at him with his eyebrowsfurrowed and Draco shook his head back at Harry in response. Itcan't be Harry's baby, though. It would be all over the papers if Harryhad a child. It certainly isn't my kid, the last time I did anythingwith a female was back in fourth year. Why isn't the baby crying, anyway? Draco abruptly turned away from his musings to watch the proceedings. He really should have been paying attention all along.
“DracoMalfoy made mistakes in his life. Everyone makes mistakes in theirlives. He obviously regrets his decisions and when it comes right downto it, there are much worse criminals that you should be spending yourtime on. I saved Draco Malfoy twice during the war and I saved himbecause I knew he was remorseful. Draco never killed anyone directlyand the death of Albus Dumbledore was not his fault even indirectly.Albus Dumbledore was already dying and his most trusted member of theorder, Severus Snape was given the gruesome job of killing the lateheadmaster. Why? Because Albus Dumbledore believed Draco Malfoy had apure soul that should be kept from the taint of killing. In fact, DracoMalfoy is the reason I am still alive and Voldemort is dead today. WhenI was taken captive to Malfoy Manor, it was Draco who refused toidentify me. Draco knew who I was, despite my swollen face, but withhis doubt Voldemort wasn't called until later. Draco gave me valuabletime to escape and was punished by Voldemort for it. I may haveoverpowered Draco for his wand, but Draco didn't put up much of afight. I truly believe that Draco Malfoy regrets what he did. It's timefor you to declare him free to go, as you did his mother who also savedmy life, and prosecute the worse criminals.” Harry said passionately, making eye contact with each and every one of the Wizengamot.
If you could see you the way I see you,Draco thought to himself as those beautiful eyes once again turned tohim. Draco wanted to reach out to Harry and tuck that stray clump ofhair that was obscuring his eyes back into place. If only I couldtell you how my feelings toward you have changed. I knew it when yourescued me and I rode behind you on your broom, my front pressed flushagainst your back, squeezing you for dear life. That's when I realizedthat I... Draco's thoughts were abruptly cut off as the Auror shouted for attention.
“Allin favor of sending Draco Malfoy to Azkaban for the next three years, raise your hands.” He said, and Draco didn't have the strength to lookup. Instead, he looked down to the infant still in his arms. He wasshocked at what he saw, the baby now had Harry's messy jet-black hairand Draco's stormy grey eyes.
“All in favor of clearing DracoMalfoy of all charges, raise your hands.” The Auror said and Dracomustered up the courage to look up. He hoped Harry's speech was enough, deep down he knew it would be. Harry was amazing. His speeches couldmove masses. Draco watched in amazement as all but a few members of theWizengamot raised their hands in favor of dropping his charges.
Harryturned to him and flashed him a brilliant smile as Draco moved awayfrom the stand and next to Harry. Draco was free. He gave Harry agenuine smile and saw Harry's eyes brighten even further. The babysquirmed again and made a happy noise. Draco tickled his stomachlightly, grinning as the baby giggled and squirmed in Draco's arms. They walked back into the hallway together to find Mrs. Weasley stillthere.
“I take it things went well, then?” she asked when she saw the smiling boys.
“Goodness,Teddy seems to really like you, Draco. The only other person who canhold him for more than a few minutes is Harry.” she said as she smiledat Draco approvingly.
“Well, he's a delightful child, he didn'tcry throughout the entire trail. Although he looks different every timeI look down at him.” Draco said amiably. It was time for change and ifMolly Weasley was going to treat him nicely, he decided that he wouldbe courteous in turn. Besides, if Harry's adoptive family took a likingto him... Well, perhaps he would have more chances to see the object ofhis affection.
“He's Remus' and Tonk's baby. He inherited hermetamorphmagus gene.” Harry spoke the first words directed to Draco inall day. Draco smiled and nodded in response and Teddy started gettingrestless in Draco's arms. He squirmed and made an annoyed noise. Dracogave Harry a startled look and Harry smiled at him while shaking hishead in amusement.
“I think it's time for someone's nap,” Harry cooed at Teddy as he took him out of Draco's arms.
“Wait... Harry... Thank you.” Draco said hurriedly, hoping that his expression conveyed his honesty.
“Sure.I'll see you around... er... Draco.” Harry said awkwardly in response. He smiled and abruptly stuck out one of his hands. Draco looked atHarry's outstretched hand in confusion before understanding suddenlydawned on him. He clasped Harry's hand with his own and shook itenthusiastically. Draco let his hand linger against Harry's longer thanwas necessary.
Harry grinned at him and waved goodbye, quickly following Molly down the hall. Maybe there is hope for me yet,he thought as he sighed contentedly. Draco was so busy focusing onHarry's retreating arse that he didn't see the other boy glance back atDraco. He didn't see the flush begin on Harry's cheeks as Harry hastilyturned away from Draco's voyeuristic eyes.
