Summary: Harry has been searching all over London for a particular book, and he finally has it in his sights. Harry had been all over Muggle London, desperately searching for a copy of the final book in his all-time favorite series: Forbidden Passions. It told the story of a boy and a girl from two very oppositeupbringings, who met and fell in love, against all odds. The first bookin the trilogy had explored their childhood friendship and growingfeelings for one another. The second book in the set was all abouttheir blossoming romance and the plethora of obstacles in the path oftheir love, and it had ended with a maddening cliffhanger. Harry hadbeen on tenterhooks ever since then, waiting anxiously for the thirdand final book to be released so that he could learn if their forbiddenlove would conquer all, or if theirs was a doomed romance.
Everybook store that Harry went to, however, was sold out. The books werebest sellers, and it seemed that everyone was eager to learn how thestory played out. As Harry entered a store named "Bell, Book &Candle", he went straight to the counter and asked if they still hadcopies of Forbidden Passions 3.
"If we've any left, they'd be over there, under New Releases," replied the austere woman, pointing to Harry's left. Harry thanked her and rushed to the sectionindicated. His heart skipped a beat when he saw that there was one copyleft of the book he sought, and he dashed forward to claim it. Harrydidn't think anything of the blur he saw to his right until anotherhand closed on the prize at the same time as Harry latched onto it.
"Let go, you peasant," spat a familiar voice. "I saw it first!"
"Malfoy?" gaped Harry, still hanging on.
"Potter?"sneered the blond, tugging tenaciously at the book. Harry's griptightened stubbornly. "I didn't know you were fond of nancy romancebooks, you ponce," Malfoy said derisively.
"What about you?" challenged Harry, giving the book another unsuccessful yank.
"Iam purchasing this for...for my mother!" exclaimed Malfoy, his eyesflickering away from Harry to land covetously on the hardback.
"Bullshite," hissed Harry. "You want this for yourself," he accused.
"So what if I do?" cried Malfoy, placing both hands on the book now in an effort to wrest it away from Harry.
"A nancy romance book?" taunted Harry, both his hands now gripping the prize firmly. "And written by a Muggle?" he couldn't resist adding.
"Gentlemen!"another voice cut into their argument, effectively ending it as each ofthem turned to look at the disapproving scowl of the matronly clerk."Stop that childish behavior this instant," she said sternly.
"But I..."
"But he..."
"Enough!"
Both men fell silent at the woman's outburst.
"What seems to be the problem?" the clerk enunciated calmly.
"We both want the same book," blurted Harry before Malfoy could speak.
"I see," replied the woman. "And just what do the two of you propose to do about this?" she asked.
"I'll pay you double what it's worth!" exclaimed Malfoy.
"Hey!" protested Harry. He was about to continue, when a young woman entered the shop and approached the clerk.
"Have you any more copies of Forbidden Passions?" she inquired politely, seeming oblivious to the tense scene in front of her.
"Asa matter of fact," the clerk responded, an evil gleam in her eye, "wehave one more, right here." And she snatched the book away from Harryand Malfoy and handed it to the other customer.
"Unfair!" they howled in unison.
Theyoung woman smiled brightly at them. "Oh, not to worry guys. I'vealready read this on the internet, and you're not missing much. Nathangoes off to war and gets killed, and Margery dies a bitter old maid.Cheers!" she added, sauntering away to pay for the book.
Harry and Malfoy stood staring after her in dumbfounded shock.
"I can't believe..."
"Of all the nerve..."
They turned to look at one another.
"That was certainly anticlimactic," Harry observed wryly.
"Quite," sniffed Malfoy, brushing disdainfully at the sleeve of his jumper.
Harry fidgeted a few seconds, and then he said cautiously, "I understand the first installment of Forbidden Passions has been made into a movie, and it should still be in theaters. That is, if you'd like to go see it with me," he ventured.
Malfoy studied him a moment, and then shrugged and said with a sigh, "Very well, Potter. It's a date...you ponce."
