My heart's been going crazy, all for the love of you;
WHO: Zelda, Link, and Guybrush! No, not the triforce trio, thank you very much.
WHAT: Sometimes when everything is going wrong, you have to let go of the sadness. At least for a little while. Link, Zelda, and Guybrush going on a bikeride and having fun. Plus, Zelda is teaching Guybrush how to sing a song so he can serenade his girlfriend. I wanted this written out and I didn't want to bother you guys for a thread. Hope you like it! <3 Please give me your thoughts and opinions ... of course, I'm a little nervous about Link (he talks. :/) and Guybrush (Never tried to write him before!) so let me know, PLEASE.
RATINGS: C for Cute. Also a teensy bit of Guybrush being a perv, but he's injected okay.
To be perfectly honest, it was a little cold for a bike ride. Most people would have appreciated the sunshine, and the fact the snow was finally (mostly) gone, but that wouldn't necessarily mean they would be all for jumping on a bicycle. But that hadn't stopped them, really.
With everything going on, she was pretty sure they all needed something carefree and fun.
They had been out for at least two hours, with at least three races in that time (usually the boys would power ahead of her, joking with each other that the other would never be fast enough) before Link would win and wave his arms in victory while Guybrush played mock sour to have lost, before the both of them would turn around as she hadn't bothered to try and ride faster for their little game. It was not that she could not keep up -- she was plenty fast when she wanted to be. But she wasn't here to race, not really. She was looking around, admiring the weather and the trees and the fresh smell of winter melting away.
Not to say she would not race at all. She'd raced in the last one, and be it the boys wanted to go easy on her or hadn't expected her to be good at it, she'd won. Strangely enough, Guybrush had hung behind the entire race. She had to wonder what he was looking at from the back. It was like he meant to be behind ...
She was probably just imagining things.
They had collectively decided to take a break in the park. Zelda was the only one actually 'resting', seated on the park bench with Link's jacket over her shoulders. She had never stated she was cold, and had no intentions to, but Link had noticed her shiver and had asked her to 'hold' his coat for him. However, she was using her position for good use, idly sketching in a notebook she'd brought, and carefully helping Guybrush to learn a song, stanza by stanza. Guybrush was still puttering around on his bike, as his energy was difficult to use up, even in a two hour bike ride, while still trying to practice the lyrics. Link was practicing fencing in the air, occasionally chuckling when Guybrush hit a particularly sour note.
"You're not singing it right," Zelda said with a slight giggle, as Guybrush, true to his word, was not much of a singer. However, he didn't seem to mind trying. She was determined to teach him the song, so he could sing it to Jennifer. Jennifer hadn't been feeling well, and couldn't come with them.
"She's not talking about the words, she's talking about the screeching sounds coming out of your mouth," Link supplied helpfully, jabbing in and out with ease against his invisible partner. The words could have sounded cruel, but the smile Link was wearing indicated he was saying it in jest.
"Ouch, man, that stings," Guybrush said, letting go of the handlebars to hold his hands to his heart, while still pedaling in large circles (look, Ma! No hands!). Zelda smiled, amused by the two. They got along so well. It was really quite charming, that they were so close. In retrospective, at times she felt almost separate from the group, though she didn't want to say so and make the others feel bad. She was just not terribly good at fitting in with people her age, really. She was just glad they not only realized that but took it in stride. It wasn't that she wasn't happy to be here, she just wasn't very good at doing this 'hang out and have fun' thing.
"Oh, don't be mean," She said, shaking her head, even though the chastisement was half-hearted at best. "But, Guy, I think you're trying to sing it too high. Don't try to match my notes, go an octave lower."
Guybrush was silent for a moment, turning, eyes strangely lingering on Link as he moved around, but Zelda didn't think much of it.
"An octave lower? I'll try, but that's asking a lot of a guy who told you he couldn't sing," Guybrush said, preforming a small jump on the bike. It made her terribly nervous when he did that.
"You can so sing. You aren't tone deaf, I don't believe it, despite your insistance to the contrary. You're doing so well," Zelda insisted. "Let's see ... But you'll look sweet--?" Zelda did not fancy herself to be a singer, but unlike her companion, she could carry a tune with fair efficiency. Guybrush could not claim the same, even though she could tell he could hear the notes -- he just had some issue matching them. It just took him a couple tries to match it. And surprisingly enough, singing out loud in front of the two of them didn't embarrass her, despite how odd it seemed. Guybrush had been a little embarassed at first when Link had laughed at his attempts, but he had warmed up to it quickly, to the point of making it a total performance by waving his hands and mimicing out lines of the song. Link had called it 'showboating' but Zelda saw it as 'enthusiasm'.
"But you'll look sweet," Guybrush echoed helpfully, this time not going to sharp on the last note. Link, meanwhile, was back stepping in his battle with an invisible foe. Zelda had to wonder if he actually envisioned an opponent to fight, or if he was simply practicing steps he could remember.
"Upon the seat..." She supplied, looking down at her sketchbook. Since her encounter with Willow Friday, she'd been drawing the same thing, over and over. She couldn't really tell what it was... A long, large building, with stone floors and walls, and a massive door at the far end, with an altar set in front of it. She could never seem to decide what should be beyond the large door, so she always shaded it out.
"Upon the seat~" Guybrush returned, pedaling backwards as he turned in a tight figure eight. She was glad he'd stopped doing wheelies and jumps because he always seemed to fall afterwards and she would always worry if he was okay.
"Of a bicycle built for two!" She finished, closing then notebook. This was the last stanza, after all. Even if it was a little more complicated than the other two, she had a feeling (or, at least, a hope) that Guybrush wouldn't need two tries on this one.
"Of a bicycle build for two~" Guybrush agreed, going a little flat at the end, but still acceptable. Pleased, Zelda clapped for him, proud that he'd done it. She rose, giving him a standing ovation. She'd be sitting too long, really, she wanted to move around.
"You did it!" She cheered, moving onto the parking lot where Guybrush was circling. "Wonderful!" She beamed at him, and Guybrush slowed to a stop next to her, echoing her bright smile.
"I did! And it was pretty good, wasn't it?" He grinned cheekily. Link laughed from behind them.
"Trust me, it was not you, it was your teacher," Link said helpfully, and Guybrush huffed. Zelda laughed, before placing a hand on Guy's shoulder. He twitched at the touch, but she assumed it was just because he wasn't expecting it.
"You did wonderful, I promise. I told you could do it." And she had. It had taken a little patience, really, and twice as much time as she'd expected -- but they'd done it. "Now you can sing it for Jennifer! It'll be so romantic!" Link rolled his eyes behind her head at this word 'romance'. She might have wondered aloud if he didn't care for romance if she'd seen it. "Now, you can give me a ride on the handlebars to pay me back. Please?"
Ever since Link had shown her how it was done, Zelda was enthralled with riding around on handlebars. She couldn't help it; it was just exhilarating. She liked the feeling of trusting completely on someone else, the way she felt like she could fall off at any time -- there was no way to truly explain it, but she adored it.
So much so that she would ask just about anyone to give her a ride on the handlebars, if she thought they'd agree.
Guybrush suddenly looked very skittish, swallowing. Confused, Zelda wondered if he didn't know how to do it.
"Did you not know someone could ride on the handlebars?" She questioned, tilting her head.
"Don't worry, Zelda, I'll give you a ride," Link offered quickly. He always seemed to be happy to do things for her, but rarely wanted her to let her return the favor. She would feel bad making him ride his bike when he was already doing something, though...
"No, that's fine, I can give you a ride," Guybrush said, voice sounding a little strange. Zelda was too pleased to notice, clapping her hands happily. Any other girl might have said something similar to 'yay', but Zelda rarely said that. In most things, she was fairly reserved, and to be honest; Her company might have looked at her strangely if she had been too enthusiastic.
"Are you quite sure?" She inquired. If he was only doing it because he felt bad, she could do without.
"Yeah, 'm sure," Guybrush said, nodding vigorously. His grip on the bike was very tight, and his knuckles were turning white. Zelda placed a hand over one, trying to tell him not to be nervous. Perhaps he was afraid to drop her?
"Don't worry. If I fall, it'll be my own fault," She assured him, trying to convince him with a smile. Guybrush smiled back, before settling his feet on the ground to make the bike steady enough for her to get on. Confident she could get on without incident, Zelda hopped up, much better at the movement now than she'd been the first time. Poor Link had probably been exhausted that day after how many times she'd asked him to cycle around. Link had collected his bike, apparently wanting to ride with them.
"Don't you drop her," warned Link, looking fairly serious. Zelda laughed at this, having just reassured Guybrush not to worry about if she fell off. Guybrush looked fairly red behind her, but that probably meant he was embarrassed.
"I'll be fine," She promised, not worried about her own bike, as it was padlocked. She doubted they'd go too far, so the things they were leaving behind would be fine. It was Harmony, after all (somehow, that didn't make her feel too confident anymore). "Just don't pedal too fast during your races."
Link scoffed at this. "Trust me, pedaling too fast is not his problem."
"Come on, man! Benefit of the doubt! Benefit of the doubt!" Guybrush whined.
"Don't worry, Guy. You're on my team by association, and Link always lets me win," Zelda teased, and Link turned bright red (possibly because this was true? She had said it in jest, but there might have been some truth to it). "Now come on! Less talking, more pedaling, and more practicing! I want that song to be perfect when you sing it for Jennifer."
Zelda's grip tightened for a moment before the bike went into motion, earning Guybrush a pleased gasp from the blonde girl. She did adore riding on handlebars. She would like to try an amusement park ride, as she was told it was like this, only better. That sounded fantastic. Perhaps there was a daredevil hidden in her somewhere.
Once she was stable, she managed to start off the stanza again. "Daisy, Daisy..."
"Give me your answer true~" Guybrush followed, managing to sing it fairly perfectly.
"My heart's been going crazy," Link supplied, surprising the other two. Zelda almost wished she'd asked him to sing earlier. He had a very nice voice. He hadn't sung the whole day, but he was apparently much better at it than Guybrush.
...Though that wasn't saying much.
"All for the love of you..."
