Maybe the word "day" has more than one meaning in the original language, but it also says, "And there was evening, and there was morning -- the first day." and "And there was evening, and there was morning -- a second day." and so on and so forth.
I think God is very aware of time. He is the creator of all things including time, as mind-boggling as that may be. This phrase is so often used by my opposition, but a day is like a thousand years to God and a thousand years a day; I suppose this could either say time doesn't matter to God, or God makes time flow the way he wants it to.
