Re: *clears throat, pt 2* A utopian world where everyone pitches in is far fetched. So? So's believing that everyone will be judged after death... or that a terrorist is really a holy warrior, in their religion... or that Africans raping babies and killing them so that AIDS wont hurt them.
--None of those things are a suitable argument. I am well aware that other far-fetched ideas exist. The fact remains that the idea of the whole world working together is far-fetched if not impossible.
And if you didnt believe that it was possible, of world peace, or unification, or a utopian world of flowers and daisies... then why do you call yourself a christian? Isnt that almost exactly whats going to happen, according to the bible? Yes, in revelations it also does say that the Antichrist will bring about 3 years of world peace. Go world peace!
--I believe in the possibility of world peace, but that is way different from world cooperation. World peace just means we can all tolerate each other. Please do not insult my faith; that is off topic and below the belt.
Anyway. The UN would have more than enough support if people, as in nations, would actually do that. Support, that is. The only reason the UN 'falls back' upon the United States is because we always do what we want to, in the end. Hell, even when the Iraq thing happened, we ended up flipping the bird to the UN and we attacked that nation.
--You are proving my point. The United Nations is ineffective. And you can't rely on nations to all support either, so the United Nations will remain ineffective.
Germany and Russia agreed not to attack each other, either. Besides, in War, who's smart enough about anything? Lines will be drawn in the sand, as they have been before with wars, especially modern wars, and the sand will fly. The US will probably be the primary target in a war, or Russia, simply because of our ability to retaliate if one of our allies were nuked. Not just our ability to retalitate, but our willingness to. We would nuke someone who nuked an ally.
--Agreeing not to attack certain nations and agreeing not to use nuclear weaponry is very different. All nuclear nations are aware of the reprocussions of nuclear warfare, and I don't think any of them want to risk it. Contrary to popular belief, we are not stupid. We would not nuke someone who nuked us or an ally; we have many other options. I don't know why you are so hooked on this idea of nuclear weaponry, but I thought you would realize there are other ways to wage war since you are in the army and all . . .
