Chopin // Revolutionary
For a long time, Tol couldn’t see them. Then his eyes adjusted and he wished, fervently, to be darkblind again. They were everywhere, skeletal frames and spiderlike limbs, and if they were all as powerful as Ban he could be ripped limb from limb before he could do so much as breathe a word in defense.
Silverchair // Miss You Love
“I don’t know what you expect me to do.”
The glamour is gone, and to his shock, there are tears on the moth fae’s face, clinging and making silver trails down the fine patterned hairs on his skin. Sanga holds out his hands and Hiru takes them, but steps no closer, shoulders trembling faintly as he attempts to regain control. Sanga ducks lower, touches his wrists, grasps his forearms, and cannot find the words.
Sir Mixalot // Baby Got Back
“She’s... rather forward, isn’t she,” Hiru commented, helpless in the face of the Fire Master’s enthusiasm. Sanga’s chin dug into his shoulder, and Hiru felt the muscles in his neck tense in a grin.
“Well,” he said, dripping with false modesty, as if he had taught the woman everything she knew. For all Hiru knew, he had. The thought was not encouraging, and he said so. Sanga’s webbed hands squeezed his thighs, startling a sound from him, and he burned at the leer he knew was coming. “Not everything,” Sanga said, conciliatory and sly.
Fortunately, Kondekir was distracted sufficient that he did not notice the moth fae’s choked-off squeak.
Gankutsuou // Auteui
Aundin’s long pale fingers tapped her lower lip, and then she said, “Auberon,” and stopped. Brows quirked. Lips downturned, as if she had discovered a trick both disappointing and appalling in its quality.
“What?” It was one word, but even Hiru could see he would have done better to stay silent; Aundin’s black gaze bored into Auberon’s star-scattered one, and slowly, slowly, a flush rose on his pale skin. His lips thinned. He swallowed and tried to speak out again, and that, Hiru knew, was his next mistake.
Dirge of Cerberus // Ninja Girl of Wutai
It was like being with Skeff all over again, albeit a female version with no idea of her own strength, or of the weaknesses of her human companion. Rin bore him to the ground with puppyish delight, and sorrow burned Tol’s throat as the leaves rose up on either side of his vision.
xxxHOLiC // Space and Time, Act II
Aundin’s hand rose to either side of Auberon’s face, and the lord of Seelie Court froze. Only for an instant, but it was an instant too long. Too long for Hiru to miss the paralysing fear of the Black Star’s touch. And then Aundin said his name again, gentle and pitying, and Auberon’s eyes closed, his jaw tensing as he swallowed again, trembling.
OC Remix – Koji Kondo // Prayer – Forest Temple
Hiru felt a shift in Auberon’s magic, but it was not until his eyes opened that he realised it had been a glamour. Auberon’s true eyes were the tawny gold of a goat’s, the pupils horizontal and flattened to slits with his fear. Aundin’s hands stayed gentle, her thumbs stroking over his cheekbones, and then she released him with a sigh of approval.
“Much better,” she said, with a mother’s satisfaction. “Your own eyes suit you best.”
Elbow // Grounds for Divorce
“Serving the Lady has always been difficult,” Sanga murmured later. “Particularly for the consorts.” His voice was tender along the curve of Hiru’s shoulder. “Although, you would know more of that than I.” Hiru closed his eyes.
“And so he...” Swallow. Breathe. “He ran. As I have run.”
Sanga nipped him lightly, but even a bare brush with those needle-like teeth had their effects. “You left for better reasons, I hope,” he said, and the hand spread on Hiru’s stomach said that he would prove it if provoked.
Soul Reaver II // Overworld (Combat)
Hiru rested his own hand on top of Sanga’s, quelling, he hoped, the sprite’s enthusiasm. He needed to think. He needed...
“Does it excuse what he did to you?” Sanga’s voice was curiously hollow. The fact that he was making an effort to divorce himself from the situation made something inside Hiru expand to his fingertips and toes, until he felt as though he needed to grasp it and crush it just to avoid screaming, or singing.
Rufus Wainwright // Going to a Town
“No,” he said, and gripped Sanga’s hand as tightly as he dared. The sprite kissed the back of his neck, chaste as he could possibly be. “It is easier to understand, but no simpler to forgive.”
Kodomo no Omocha // Ultra Relax
“Think of it as travelling theatre,” Ban suggested to him dryly, and from a distance that was certainly what it looked like. Sanga’s flirtations were not so much delicate steps as full-body tackles, and Hiru’s responses were as eloquent – if as unrefined – as an elbow in the face. Tol could see some of the village women chuckling behind their hands, behind their baskets, and had he not known what lay beneath the glamour of a short, blond human woman and a ridiculously tall, dark and handsome human man, he would have said the pair of them would have children in a year, as well.
Hyrule Symphony Orchestra // Kakariko Village
Otherwise, the town was quite sleepy, and when they settled into an inn – courtesy of Ban’s contacts and direct way of talking – Tol could feel the atmosphere seeping into his weary body, just as the heat had in Quarry, sapping his limbs of all their strength. “I’m just going to,” he said, and the rest was lost as his head drooped forward onto his arms.
Ban forgave him only, he thought, because he had done such an excellent job of keeping the two fae from each other’s throats all day.
Elbow // Great Expectations
The scent of burned flesh was heavy in the ward, and it made Sanga acutely uncomfortable because his words were perfectly true: “You smell good enough to eat.” Landre laughed and then coughed, and the Air Master gave him a look so severe that he picked up the glass of water at her elbow and offered it to her before Kondekir could reach over the bed and do what his eyes were threatening. He’d nearly doused shelves full of ancient texts with salt water on more than one occasion, and he’d still never seen the man’s mouth look so pinched.
Hitoshi Sakimoto // Reminiscence
Hiru found him on the floor of Risette’s chamber, staring up at the ethereally pale face of the Earth Master and the twisted dark disease that crawled along her limbs, half-sunk into the largest pool of crystalline water around her roots. He sat down at the edge, sliding first feet and then calves into the water, and clasped his hands around his thighs, gaze travelling from his lover to the immense dryad set in the ceiling.
“I can still hear her,” Sanga murmured. “But sometimes I miss the way she used to speak.”
Hiru said nothing, but tangled his fingers in Sanga’s hair and waited.
Berserk // Tell Me Why
He moved forward too quickly, and Hiru’s hands knotted viciously in his hair. “No!”
The desperate cry echoed around the clearing, and Sanga’s grit teeth made his own voice tinny and unreal by comparison.
“Butterfly, if you will not come toward me, and you will not let me come to you,” he began, with exaggerated patience, and Hiru dropped his hands, dropped his head, and let out all his breath in another of the sounds of pent-up, automatic fear that Sanga had grown so used to.
Elbow // Presuming Ed (Rest Easy)
“I know,” he said, small and agonised, and Sanga’s thumbs rubbed soothing circles on Hiru’s upper arms. Far from helping, this only tightened Hiru’s posture, and Sanga stepped back, sank to the ground, and spread both palms flat out on the ground.
“You are trying,” he said. “I understand your difficulty.”
“But you’re angry, anyway,” Hiru completed, wretched and pale, looking anywhere but Sanga’s face, because Sanga could not deny that it was true.
