Lucy Westenra was a nocturnal creature now, and she was not altogether used to the difference. Moreover, many of the residents of the Mortuary were fast-asleep, and although Lucy might consider eating them, waking them up by clanging about was just an altogether different definition of "rude".
Tonight, though - there was something off in the air. She couldn't have explained what it was, and indeed almost dismissed it as yet another new strangeness in her biology, but a strange rustling sound followed by what sounded like an annoyed voice prompted her to realize that Something was indeed Happening. Stepping into the hall, her head tilted slightly to the right as she tried to determine what was happening, Lucy was surprised to see a flock (was that the word? flock?) of bats form into the shape of a young woman. The constable, now that she thought of it: Ms. Von Humpeding. And now she saw all of Ms. Von Humpeding.
A younger, less blood-thirsty Lucy would have gasped and said something insipid to the tune of "Oh my stars!" or "Good God!" but Lucy had seen weirder stuff than this by now. Still, this merited a reaction:
"Are you having a trouble?" Lucy inquired, going to one of the tables and pulling at the velvet tablecloth. An unlit candelabra crashed upon the floor. She offered it to Ms. Von Humpeding primly. "You seem to have a case of bats."
