It didn't make sense, but at the time Ginny had been so upset at being left behind, even if it wasn't exactly Ron's fault. Then she got to Hogwarts and he has his own friends, his own stuff. It didn't help that she'd had a mad crush on his best mate. Ginny had found her own niche at Hogwarts and it had left them drifting apart. It seemed growing up only widened the gap with Ron's constant over-protectiveness. Ginny hated being coddled and it had led to row after row. She'd said a lot of things she didn't really mean, but it was hard to take them back once it was done.
But at the end of the day, Ron was her brother and she loved him. She knew he loved her, too, even if they never said it. It was kind of okay to hear it now and then, though, and she smiled when he said it now.
"I love you, too," she returned and a moment later she was laughing. "Percy is a wanker, but you have to admit he's gotten better." It was true. Percy was no less affected by the war that the rest of them. Maybe more so. He'd confessed to Ginny once that he felt guilty, as though there was anything he could have done to prevent what had happened to Fred.
"What did George bring you? Anything good?" she asked, obviously changing the subject.
