Who: Melinda Bobbin & Terry Boot. When: Monday evening, after dinner. Where: The dungeons - a potions classroom. Summary: Melinda begins tutoring in potions. Rating: PG - I can't imagine it going higher than that.
The cauldron was bubbling, and the smell wafting from the classroom was laced with spearmint and cedar. It wasn't hard to convince Professor Slughorn to give her access to a classroom - unlike Professor Snape, charm went a long way. A sweet smile, a compliment, and a promise to clean more cauldrons was all it took to take over a classroom for the evening. It wasn't that Melinda was a spiteful young woman, nor was she vindictive, or manipulative, she was just very strategic with whom she associated with. Unlike some of the members of her house, Melinda didn't view others as lower than her, she viewed them as opportunities to expand her possibilities. People weren't mean to be looked down upon - okay, perhaps a few were - but rather as opportunities to network, to get her name out there and to become the perfect little business woman that she was destined to become.
As Melinda worked to set up the classroom tonight, however, the real question was that ingredients she should be setting up for, Terry didn't specify where in potions he needed help, but Melinda decided it would be best to start at the beginning. She set up a small table for them to work. Her own potion book close at hand, should she need to reference it.
With her wand, she began to sharpen a knife and lay out a few simple supplies. Clean parchment, quills and ink were at another table, in case Terry didn't even want to actually do hands on potion working and wanted to just go straight to essay writing. Again, she was leaving this up to him, she was just here to help.
Her robe was folded neatly on a chair, and her sleeves were rolled up to her elbows to prevent her sleeves from getting dirty. The classroom itself seemed odd with just the young woman there. She worked quietly, pulling supplies from the cupboards and darting to the closets to pull out other necessities. A billow moved on it's own to continuously stoke the fire beneath the cauldron, and a few candles kept the room lit enough to work for two people. Melinda didn't need a fully functioning classroom, she just needed access to potion supplies and a cauldron. Professor Slughorn was just nice enough to give her access to the full room - it must be one of those perks of being a member of the Slug Club.
