Even though the distance they had run had not been substantial, when Megan turned around to assess a way out of the forest, she felt as though the trees had swallowed them whole - blocking the entrance from which they came.
The scream cut across her thoughts and Megan knew she had no option but to follow Michael. She quickened her pace into a full sprint in order to catch up, her chest tightened against the cold air. Her feet were awkward, sinking into softened patches in the dirt and catching on roots jutting above the surface. On particular snag forced her to her knees.
"What makes you think I'm any good at dueling?" Megan questioned, dragging herself up to her feet. Reaching down to brush off the mud and debris from her trousers, her stinging skin told her she was bleeding beneath the fabric.
Cursing beneath her breath, Megan knew she could not afford to stop and she gimped closer to where Michael stood - just in time to see release a Patronus. She was familiar with the spell, not because she could do one, but because of tragic hunt for Justin that occured over the summer. It still impressed her, even now.
"How do you do that?" She asked, just before another yelp interrupted the conversation.
