Eddie crouched over the slip of paper she'd offered, his handwriting cramped but clear.
Not just for show, Sunshine. Listen closely and you'll be able to hear if anyone is coming up behind you.
Even him.
Folding the note, Eddie slipped it into an open corner of the small package, tapping it lightly with his fingers. He didn't think Patricia was the prying type, though he supposed it hardly mattered. Al was just as likely to chuck it out the window as she was to open it.
He held out the gift to Patricia. "Thanks." He shifted slightly on his feet, glancing awkwardly out the window instead of into her face. "And tell her, well, just tell her I could use some help."
There, he'd said it. Maybe she'd believe it better coming from someone she trusted.
