Halcyon most definitely had its purposes and those were filled without question: it offered a safe haven to their kind, it allowed students to get to know those like them, it gave them a chance to learn about those unlike them, it fed them and put a roof over their head and it seemed it also tended to nurture relationships of all sorts.
As a less involved member of the staff, seeing as she didn't truly directly deal with them, but her somewhat removed position allowed her to observe that first tentative formation of relationships between students. There was young love of course and bonds of friendships that would span lifetimes, all things reflected in ties between certain members of the staff.
"I've been off campus several times," Cat nodded, "I don't stay in one place well, so it helps to relieve that just to head into town and walk around for a while." She hadn't met many weres that could stay cooped up for days, weeks at a time. She craved fresh air and a good stretch of her legs. Town often drew her in because it thrived somewhat with life, but other days she craved nothing but a hard, fast fun through the woods. It all depended.
"The students seem to enjoy the chance to leave campus frequently, too." It always helped not to make people feel as though they were caged in - the freedom with which the students could come and go seemed to circumvent such feelings nicely. Most of the students were still young enough that rebellion was nearly second nature, trapping them in would just heighten that.
