“So can I.” Aramil admit to being bested by a human? She is sure that there is something else to it, but she isn’t shocked he didn’t go running to her to tell the news. And who knew when it happened, they may not have been on speaking terms. “Fencing is fun. It’s more engaging, at least to me. But I really enjoy it.” There’s something liberating about being so physical, but beyond the weapons, being able to go out in the forest and fully enjoy it from such a unique perspective. “I think people naturally look for the easier way to do things.”
Evelyn nodded, “I guess it’s bizarre when you’re not used to it. I know I’m not. But humans are different, there’s only so long that you could be considered a ‘child’ even by your elders. A human Ari’s age would be considered well into adulthood years over. No more excuses.” She smiled a bit, “Anyone else would probably try to take advantage, but I think if they actually heard him out more often they’d be surprised.” Which would be amazing for several hundred year old woodland guardians. “I’ve been on the outside for years, and just when I think I understand them, something else proves I don’t. Even Aramil surprises me still.”
Scary. Terrifying. She was barely conscious and yet she knew what was going on. She knew what had happened. “So am I.” She nodded to the question posed, “I am,” she explained. “Though I didn’t get to know that side of myself until just a few years ago. I had gone to Canada to live with my grandmother for a time.” And that’s what started everything. “Meeting the elves was her idea. She knew they were migrating there and that it would be a good outlet for me to get to know more about who I was.” She grinned, “She thought seeing it with the elves might prove more responsible than allowing me to hunt them out.”
Ah. That can’t be comfortable, being forced from your natural rhythms. “That can’t be easy. You’d think they would make it easier for you to attend, not that much harder.” Her head took on a curious cock to it, even as she thought about it. Then she grinned, “I slept as often as I could when I went back home. I loved being surrounded by all the trees again. Seeing my family. It was good. I needed that, just to ground myself.”
