Lani herself viewed parenting as a great adventure. Adventures weren't all fun and games though. Struggles and set backs always happened, that was part of the adventure. But she had also seen what happened to kids in situations like Kamea's. Sure her own parents had made it through, but Lani had seen plenty of girls left by the wayside with children. She had seen children becoming boring to their fathers, once the novelty wore off, and then they never saw them again. It was part of traveling, of getting to know people in normally high density areas. She did not want that to happen to Kamea, she didn't want him getting bored.
"You'll understand why once you spend more time as a parent." she said with a sigh. Sometimes promises could just not be kept. And if she was going to have Starbuck in Kamea's life, she was not about to let him be a disappointment to her. Lani would be hell bent against that happening.
"She's been all excited all day, hasn't really slept." she replied, smiling as Kamea yawned again. Reaching out, she took Kamea back and rested her head against her shoulder. "I should probably put her to bed, she's had a long day." They both had, and Starbuck was probably looking on a long night.
