When Lani looked down, that confirmed it for him. No words were really necessary. She hopefully felt guilty, because she damn well should! Thoughts were racing through Starbuck's head. He was so confused right now, feeling a mix of fear and anger... definitely the top to emotions running through him. How could she not tell him?
And when she gave him an answer, he felt his temper rise. It was a good thing Kamea was right there, or he would have started a screaming match with her instantly. "Didn't want to tie me down?" His voice wasn't raised, but something in it had definitely changed. Still, he took a second to breathe, even took a step away from her. He didn't want to upset Kamea... his... daughter. Holy fuck. Thinking that made his pulse race, and he was sweating a bit. The shaking that had started in his hand was spreading to his whole body.
After being quiet for a few more moments, he was able to speak in a calmer voice, pushing the anger back for the time being so that he could work this out. Still, the hurt was quite visible in his eyes as they darted between Lani and Kamea. He was scared, absolutely terrified, but at the same time... he was already in love with Kamea. How could he not be? She was a beautiful little girl, and he was half of her. It was an incredible emotion to feel, completely overwhelming, and definitely enough to override his anger for the time being. "Can I hold her?"
