Out of touch was never good, on that he was sure they could agree. Feeling that disconnect was what had sparked this genius little idea in the first place. He needed to break the habit of getting lost in his own head - East was so used to nobody giving a damn if he played hermit for awhile that reminding himself that Sam was there was a nice surprise, something that he was working to remember. Maybe he'd failed this time around, but he was trying to make it up to her now - he was hoping this worked...or at least was a starting off point. So far Sam seemed pleased and that was really all he could ask for. Closing the door behind him, East grabbed a few things before settling onto the blanket across from her.
To hear that he was forgiven was a relief, though he knew Sam would never truly hold it against him. She knew how he was, the kind of guy he tended to be...most of all, he felt confident that she knew he wasn't neglecting her intentionally. "Good, then we can enjoy our evening," he grinned, moving to serve them each up a few slices of pizza, setting hers down beside her seat while she moved to select a movie for them. The DVD sprang to life on the screen and East shifted, resting his back against the couch next to Sam as the pair settled in to eat, 'Gladiator' lighting up the room around them.
Halfway through the movie the pizza was gone and East, the resident bottomless pit, was going after one of those cupcakes he'd picked out for Sam. Pulling one from the plastic, he turned to offer it to her before grabbing one for himself and pulling the paper from the little treat. "I'm glad you came," he informed her with a smile as he settled back, licking some frosting from his dessert.
