Sydni frowned at her speculation that her parents' love wouldn't have lasted. The frown deepened as she spoke about her father's death. "I'm sorry to hear that..." The frown changed to outright horror when she spoke, then, of her mother. "Oh my God, Davia, that's terrible." Sydni shook her head. She'd been to that dark place. She'd only made it through because of the people she'd leave behind. She couldn't face the idea of her mother or father finding her body. Knowing that despair, she felt a surge of deep sadness, not just for Davia, but also for her mother.
Preoccupied with this new information, it took Sydni a bit to think about a story that did have a happy ending for love... Truthfully, there certainly weren't many. Except for fairy tales. Instead, Sydni observed, after a considerable pause, "Without the pain there can't be the happiness." Shrugging, Sydni continued, "It doesn't make it any better, but that's the best I can come up with."
Not really understanding what the difference between her biological father and her vampire father, Sydni assumed that her dad and her parents were one in the same. She nodded, a bit confused, but not really wanting to bring up painful memories, she didn't ask any questions. Smiling gently, she suggested, "Maybe you'll meet someone here?" The thought crossed Sydni's mind, too. But, right now, she couldn't imagine being with anyone. Justina wasn't going to last. And she didn't have the hope in her future to really believe happiness was coming her way.
