Week Four: Friday
Who: Nell and OPEN
Where: The Garage Tavern
Why: Because there’s no way she’d go to Heaven and Hell.
When: Friday Night
The idea of going out into the town by herself had been passing through the back of her mind most of the week. She had never been one for the club scene either. From what she had gathered that was were most of the people from that school went and it did not bother her one bit to avoid the great majority of them. Still in this place there really were not all that many places to choose from. If she had been back home there would have been place upon place to go to. There was even one where one of the tenders knew her name, thanks to one of Blake’s concerts. But this island was nowhere near being New York.
But Nell was resourceful and was not afraid of a walk in the night around the town. Even with supernaturals crawling around, they could hardly be more dangerous than the average mugger. True they were more powerful but Nell knew for a fact that her powers did work when she felt threatened and she would not have to put thought into using them. It was the control that she was trying to have now, not that she found any of the possible classes to choose from being very pertinent. Still, she could train herself. And it would not have to be in private completely either. Her powers were not dangerous, after all.
Lucky for Nell her walk would not turn out to be for naught but fresh air. With the word tavern in the name it was either a bar of some sort or one of those restaurants that tried to pass off as a bar. Either way it suited Nell’s purposes just fine from what it looked like. Walking inside she was pleasantly surprised that it was not completely packed. There was enough room to move around and the bar did not seem to be too busy. Getting the tender’s attention was not too hard and since the bar seemed to be used to supernaturals, her height was not a question like it would have been in some places back home.
Her drink came up quickly and she managed to locate herself a booth near the corner to hole up. Setting her beer on the table she pulled out her current project, a deck of playing cards. At the moment she was trying to figure out which was harder to alter, color or shape. While her powers were just illusions, what people saw was very real to them. Nell was becoming very aware of just how much people of any kind relied on their eyes. If she was going to have this power she might as well try to control it. Illusions were something that could come in handy.
Pulling out the aces, she laid them out in a row in front of her, one of each shape and two of each color. Focusing in on the center two, the ace of diamonds and the ace of spades, she tried to make them both black. She was still starting out with this whole process but at the moment touch seemed to help her focus. Placing a finger on each card, she tried to bend the ace of spades to be red. Slowly, as if the spade had just started to swell with blood, the color melted into it and she was sitting there looking at a red ace of spades. Smiling ever so slightly, she released her focus and it returned to normal.
One had to start small and build up. She knew she was capable of bigger things, much bigger things. But those had all been created on adrenaline, though she had never really thought they had actually happened back when they did. But she was going to control this, no matter what it took. If anything illusion would be very lucrative later in life. There were a lot of benefits to learning this.
And now, to make them both diamonds.
