Week 3: Tuesday Afternoon
Who: Mair and Kenny
Where: By the beach
When: Tuesday
The rain hadn’t kept Mair inside all the time, but it had kept her from her beloved outdoors far more than usual. There was nothing like being out in the sunshine in spring. Something about the nice mild weather and the way the flowers were blooming and everything was turning green from the recent rain made her feel more alive. In the nature nymph’s case, it tended to make her almost hyperactive, and after a long day of attempting to keep her attention on the professor during classes while doodling pictures of horses and flowers and beaches instead of taking notes, she hurried to her room and retrieved Rhys, threw her things on the bed, and made a bee-line for the great outdoors.
The horse she was working with today wasn’t scheduled until a few hours later, so she had time to kill, and it had been a few days since she and Rhys had wandered down to the beach. The waterside still fascinated her, as she’d never seen anything like it before coming to Halcyon. The waves crashing on the shore were hypnotic at times when she had less energy, but right now she wanted to play and Rhys had the same thing in mind.
The little red fox bounded off and brought back a stick that was almost as large as he was. “That’s a little big for you,” she said with a laugh, snapping the wood in half before tossing it for him. He let out a raspy bark and went after it, hopping rather than running, and Mair ran after him, trying to beat him to it. Of course the fox was quicker, and he ran from her, turning every so often to see if she was still following. The two made quite a sight, a presumably wild animal being chased after by a wisp of a girl, laughing as the surf soaked the hem of her jeans.
Finally she was worn out and sat down in the sand a few feet out of the reach of the waves, leaning back. Rhys kept running but turned and came back, dropping the stick right on her face. She giggled again and threw it for him and he leaped after it. He could play for hours and never get tired, and even though Mair’s mind was always moving a million miles a minute, her muscles did need a rest occasionally!
