"McCafferty House?" Fisher scoffed. "That sounds like a shelter for battered women my mother might have fundraisers for." He thought about James claiming he was the "only member", and Fisher wondered briefly if maybe there was no one else at the school (or maybe anywhere) that James felt was on the same level as himself. And was that sad, or disgusting?
James explained the sitch with his ex and all her lovers (Fisher assumed the guy Nell had left James for was not the one she was currently dating), and Fisher actually cringed. "Ouch," he said, and meant it. "That bites the big one." They walked a little in silence. "So... why don't you just get another girlfriend? I mean, I'm sure Nell is irreplaceable and no one could compare and she's perfect for you and all that jazz, but there are plenty of fish in the sea. I mean, Nell might be the Halibut of your dreams, but you'll probably just sulk about it until you grab yourself a nice piece of Bass." Fisher snickered, knowing that fish puns weren't funny (especially in serious conversations) but enjoying himself all the same.
