Fisher knew that Ita's parents could hear her, because they were watching their daughter with quiet reverance. Ita's mom looked so happy. Well, happy and weepy. There was so much love and pride in those eyes, it kind of made Fisher jealous. His own mom would never look at him that way again, and it kind of sucked. When Ita reached out and touched his shoulder, though, he couldn't help but smile. He liked Ita already, even though she was the exact opposite of the kind of people he got along with. She was just so genuine, and that was so hard to come by these days. Everyone was a liar.
As Ita rattled off her potential love life, Fisher had to cover his mouth to hide the smile. Although she was actually communicating with her mom and dad, Ita seemed not to notice (or mind) that she was revealing her love life to a total stranger. Well, it wasn't the weirdest conversation he'd overheard, not by a long shot.
"They know," he assured her. "They can hear you. And they love you too." He turned his head away from Ita, as though listening. "No way," he muttered, but turned dutifully back to the bouncy blonde. "Your dad sends his love, and he told me to hug you for him." He paused, gave her a quick (and awkward) sideways hug, then clasped his hands in his lap. Fisher was a firm believer in the No Physical Contact rule.
"He also wanted to know if you've still got that pearl necklace he gave you."
