"You are far more patient of a man, than I have ever been. Yet, I suppose if you wish to keep her in your company for a time, these things were necessary." Vallis would never have bothered with such complicated illusions. Toying with someone was one thing, but this was far more elaborate than he'd ever willingly go. Too much work, for so little of a prize. A prize being a difficult childe lurking around for a decade or two? No, he would pass on such an opportunity. "You are quite clever. More so than I would have at first believed. Not a stone unturned." He sounded truly impressed. It seemed Henry now ranked as one the more impressive childer in his mind.
His brows rose curiously. "The women, I could understand. That has to be a pretty sight, but the men. Does that not bother you?" If it were him, he'd probably be green over such a thing. Yet, he'd never admit it. Just as he'd never admit to the urge of wanting to kill any man that touched Lily, while he was still enjoying her. "Not this age. They are just more open to discussing it. The idea is nothing new. It's never fallen out of popularity." It was simply now a matter of being more excepted. "My previous wife, she was of such a nature. It kept our bed very interesting, that I admit."
He had not forgotten that moment when he abandoned all hope in his own mortality. In truth, it had come before the change. Revenge. A drive that he knew would likely end in his death. In a way, it had. It hadn't ended him, however. Here he still stood today, while those enemies were nothing more than dust. They weren't the last either. "If you were, I would be truly disappointed. We must change with time, and you have done just that." He grinned lightly. "Amusement? No. I admired you. You had lost everything, yet you refused to slip into deaths embrace willingly. So many men on that field, they begged for death, just to end the suffering. To save them from what life might have to offer next. Those were merciful days, on my part. Both to them, and you." His head inclined down then, his eyes resting on the stone floor. "I did not leave, because my affection had been lost. I left, because as you said, you didn't need me there."
