Since she arrived at Halcyon, no one had ever asked her why she was here so she was rather taken aback when he did. “I.. it’s a long story. I had to.. hide what I was before. Here I don’t.” No one at Halcyon knew about her past except Ray, Manny and probably her guide Aimee but that was only because she probably had information about it in Kim’s file. Kim wasn’t all about the sharing of her personal life, especially her past. It hurt too damn much to even think about all the shit that her parents put her through.
Still holding on to his arm with one hand, she reached for the ball with the other but was unable to swipe it away. Once she saw that his feet were starting to slip, she let go of his arm but was too late to keep herself from falling. Putting her arms out in front of her to break the fall, she landed on her side, sliding a little bit in the mud before she came to a stop.
A few seconds later, she stood up, wiping some of the mud out of her face and hair. Kim shook her head and chuckled slightly as he flung mud at her clothes. “Nah, I don’t. They’ve seen worse days.” She wiped her hands off on her shorts and looked back up at Starbuck. “I’d ask you the same thing, but it’s kinda obvious that you don’t.”
Looking over at the markers that were laid out, Kim realized that he had gotten about half way to his end zone before she stopped him. “So exactly how is this next down supposed to go? Not much of a passing game with just one on one. Not much of a running game either if we’re both lined up on the line of scrimmage.” Yeah, maybe it sounded like she was taking the game seriously, but she was enjoying herself. It was nice to get out and get muddy every once in a while.
