This guy was sounding better, and better by the moment. Most people went for the street appeal, in both cars, and bikes. Whatever looked the fastest, more stream line, and indeed flashy. "I completely agree with you. I can't stand how nowadays, everything on a car is fiberglass. That doesn't seem at all safe to me. If someone, or something collides with you, it will completely crumple. Now, you take a car from the seventies, completely made of metal, and that thing is like a tank. Someone may hit you, but they will be the ones to crumple, not you." Vivian often wished that her family had been traveling in an older car the night they were killed. She would never forget seeing the wreckage of their car, the following day. It had been a mangled mesh of machinery, no badly torn apart, that you couldn't tell the trunk from the front end.
"The man who ran the pub back home, he was amazing. He'd had the place for nearly ten years, built it up from complete nothingness." Though it wasn't one of the most jumping places in Cape Town, it had held a steady flow of committed patrons. "He was a good boss as well. He allowed me to take a year off, when my family passed on. Once I was ready to come back, no questions asked, no awkwardness, he just let me right back in on the rotation." Being able to slip back into that normality had really helped her out at the time.
Vivian chuckled, "Fair enough." First impressions, were important. But, she'd discovered that some people were either really good liars, or amazing actors. You might think you know a person for years, and then one day they just surprise you. Show a completely different part of themselves, that you might never think would have existed. It was for this reason, that she didn't take to trusting people very easily. There was maybe one person at the school, out of all of her friends she could trust, and they had been through hell together. Once back on her feet, she reached up, trying to somewhat calm the tousled curls. Given their state, she decided tucking them behind her ears was the best bet for now. "It was lovely, but yes, I'll be sure to check the weather report next time. I wasn't expecting the weather to be... English, today." It did remind her a bit of London.
