"Are you seriously texting AGAIN, Daekwan? Hajimaaa!"
Kwan's eyes were the only things that moved as he glanced up at his father. They had received a tip that there was a gathering of sirens nearby, but of course, they were stationed out in a wooded area by a highway just out of sight. And it was raining. If there was anything Kwan hated more, it was having to go out hunting in the rain. He was cold, wet, annoyed, hungry, and worst of all, his cell phone reception was shit. He had lost count of how many times he had cursed the day he'd been born into this stupid hunter family, but it was on hunts like tonight's that only reaffirmed what a bullshit life he had.
"Don't worry," he replied coolly to his father. "None of the 18,000 messages I've tried to send have gone through, because you've managed to find the one forest in all of South Korea without a single cell phone tower for miles. Gomawo." He rolled his eyes and stuffed his phone into his pocket before brushing back his hair slick with rain water with a sigh. "How long are we going to wait out here anyway? I'm pretty sure I have ten forms of pneumonia by now."
He heard his father mutter something about how worthless he was, which didn't faze Kwan in the least. Hunting wasn't his calling, never was and never would be. Just because it was "the family business" didn't mean he had to like it. And trust that he sure didn't. But his father held his bank account in the palm of his hands, and Kwan liked his partying lifestyle when he wasn't out hunting in the freezing rain. So he stuck around for that, though he was seriously about to call it quits here any second now.
"I'm going to go take a leak. Keep a lookout."
Kwan made a face at his father and shuddered as he stomped off deeper into the forest. "So gross," Kwan muttered to himself and twirled the bronze blade around his hand lazily. This was so pointless. He didn't know why they were out here waiting for the sirens to come to them. Right. Like an actual siren was just going to walk up to him right now and just say hey. Like that ever happened....
a lot of suwon's acquaintances in the group of sirens that he sometimes related with liked to stay in their siren-form, but suwon quite liked masking his true form with a beautiful human form. it helped that he liked enslaving weak minds to his control. it was a thrill, something some others of his kind looked down on. they thought it was dangerous, what he did. it brought them too much vulnerability, but suwon was too good at hiding his abilities. a hunter, like the ones on his tail right now, could look suwon right in the face and not know that lurking beneath his sparkling eyes and porcelain skin, his ever-changing hair color and the sly smile always tugging at the corners of his full lips, was the very siren they were hunting with their pathetic little brass blades. he stayed too close to those under his spell and killed them almost immediately after he got bored of them, so it wasn't likely that the blades they were twirling around were going to affect him, as he didn't leave any blood behind of someone under his spell.
he was currently in his true form, hidden among the foliage as he watched a small pack of hunters-- two measly ones, how insulting-- come closer to the group he'd been leaching supplies off. he was in between comebacks, and he had a history of disappearing between his performances to find "inspiration," but rather he found weak-willed souls to feed on, making them fall in love with his songs and then feeding off that love, that desire that the brain released every time they looked at him or heard his enchanted voice.
suwon had a talent for seeking out the weakest link in a hunter's crew, and he found this one easily as he fussed with his phone. suwon watched in the shadows with a soft chuckle as this sulking hunter tried to find a signal to contact anyone but the annoyingly driven man he was partnered with. his powers coalesced, reading kwan's mind and he had to bite down on a laugh as it came out loud and clear: like an actual siren was just going to walk up to him right now and just say hey. like that ever happened.
suwon ran his hands through his currently blue hair and straightened his coat, pretending to be cold and shivering in the storm as he pushed aside the leaves and branches. he was a fantastic actor, if he did say so himself, as he panted and stepped into the ring of light that the small fire afforded. "excuse me, but i think i'm lost..." he spoke in a lilting tone to the hunter that had been left behind to watch the horizon, giving a half smiled to him as he ran his hand through his hair again to push it off his forehead.
The knife? It was all for show. Yes, he knew how to use it perfectly fine, and of course he knew he needed the blood of one of the siren's victims in order to properly kill it. But honestly, Kwan didn't really care. He would much rather be scoping out a club with a stiff drink in his hand than standing out in the cold waiting to kill or be killed by a siren. It would be poetic justice in a way, not that his father would even acknowledge his sacrifice or anything. Huh... maybe that was his father's plan all along. Use him as bait.
"Son of a bitch," he muttered to himself, wondering if that was really what his father was doing. He didn't have much time to think on it though when he heard leaves rustling beside him. Maybe Kwan was a terrible hunter, maybe he'd never actually killed a supernatural creature before, maybe he hated this life and everything about it, but he certainly knew when to take a defensive stance at a moment's notice.
"Who's there?" He didn't have to wait long to discover a shivering, blue-haired young man approaching him. Kwan's hunter mind clicked with the possibility that this was some sort of trap, but that couldn't possibly be true. Sirens were ugly, dingy, dirty things.... and this? Well, this was probably the most gorgeous man he'd ever seen in his entire life. He glanced all around him, mostly checking to see if his father was on the way back. He was going to kill him if he found Kwan out here flirting on the job.
Slowly, he lowered his knife and twirled it back into a safe position tucked inside his wrist. "You think you're lost? You're in the woods, so I would say.... yeah, you're definitely lost." He looked the man up and down before sighing and undoing his coat. "You look cold," he said in a not-so-emotionless voice. "Here." He approached him with his coat, attempting to drape it over him and rub his arms dry. "How did you get out here anyway? Did your car break down? You know it's dangerous out here, right?"
