Zechs kicked over some debris in the abandoned cave and tilted his head when he noticed a piece of metal. It looked like a capsule of some sort, but further inspection revealed an intricate interior of machinery. He tinkered with the object, absently reaching for a crystal on the ground. It locked into place and he sealed the object.
He pressed a button on the side and a controlled burst of energy thrummed to life. Its blue light filled the cave and he experimentally cut down, slicing at one of the rocks. He was startled when it cut through smoothly.

He clipped the metal capsule onto his belt, after urging his team forward. There was no habitation on this planet upon a cursory inspection of former. Whatever was on this planet had moved on.
He watched the stars from his quarters on the ship and his hand went to his side. The call to use the object was strong. He took it in his hand and summoned the light with the press of his thumb. He twirled his wrist and spun around, going through basic sword movements.
He could feel his soul merging with the energy…he could hear it whisper.

His dreams were filled with images of light and darkness. They fought each other continually, until they settled into an uneasy balance. When he awoke he often felt conflicted.
He sat in a meditative position. He closed his eyes and willed his focus into stillness. After a few moments he felt his senses expanding. He could hear crisp walks of boots against metal in the hallway and he could connect the noises with visual images.
He could feel his body detach and grow lighter.
His eyes flew open in shock when he bumped the ceiling - his body was floating.

Zechs nodded to Treize before settling into a chair across from his desk. “Was there a gravity fluctuation this morning?”
“No,” Treize said. He thoughtfully traced the rim of his wine glass. “You’ve been acting different of late.”
“I’ve felt different.”
“Since the cave,” Treize said.
“You noticed?”
“I happened along a similar cave several years ago,” Treize said.
The thrum of familiar energy caused Zechs to nearly fall from his chair. “Y…You have one too?”
Treize balanced the object in his hand. “I was wondering when you would create yours.”
Zechs stood. “What is it?”
“It’s called a lightsaber.”

“I don’t understand,” Zechs said.
“Nor do I,” Treize said. “The specifics are rather disputed by science. But, the data I have uncovered reveals that individuals with high counts of sentient life forms in the bloodstream called midi-chlorians, possess the unique qualities of the Force.”
“The Force?”
“It surrounds us, binds the universe together” Treize said. “Tell me Zechs, have you heard of the Sith?”
“The term sounds familiar,” Zechs said. “I’ve heard it in dreams.”
“How about the Jedi?”
Zechs found himself smiling.
“I have someone I would like you to meet,” Treize said. “His name is Master Yoda.”

“Mmm, tall candidate this one is.”
Zechs tilted his head at the creature.
“Thinks me unusual he does.”
Treize chuckled. “He’s never seen anyone like you Master Yoda.”
“Remedy that you have,” Yoda poked Zechs with his stick. “Why you wear a mask?”
“It suits me,” Zechs said.
Yoda laughed. “Suits you, you say? Mmm, perhaps, perhaps not. Remove it for training you shall.”
Zechs removed the helmet, shaking out his hair.
“Long hair this one has!”
Zechs looked helplessly to Treize.
“You get used to him,” Treize said, hiding a smile.
“Still here I am.”
“Sorry Master,” they chorused.

A week passed and Treize met with Master Yoda in his hut.
“Realize your decision, you have?”
“Yes,” Treize said, sipping at the tea Yoda handed him.
“He’ll leave you,” Yoda said, “now that you have made your choice.”
“That much I have seen,” Treize said. “But, at least now he will have the skills necessary to make a difference in this universe.”
“Seen your own destiny, you have?”
“I have,” Treize said. “No matter what course of action I take, it all leads to the same end. I want to meet that end honorably and on my own terms.”
