Hoo boy, there she went. Sounded a lot like both sides had some communication issues. Really, really bad ones. And here he was thinking he was an eyelash away of ruining everything with Nancy just on account of being too dumb to articulate himself correctly - two perfectly smart people couldn't even talk about their damn baby without it turning into some kind of emotional war.
"Maybe y'were both s'busy fightin' he jus' di'n't bother sayin' what his plan was," Wilbur said, "People make mistakes when they're pissed off, an' I reckon a misunderstandin' 'bout a baby is a good way t'get real pissed off."
And he knew that more than most people would ever know. Sometimes you just needed to take a step back, pull your head out of your ass, and recognize that even if you were sort of right, you could still entirely fuck a situation up.
"Most critters that can be summoned don't like it," Wilbur said, "Usually means y'get bossed around an' made t'do shitty things. Safe t'say Jellybean's daddy wouldn't want that fer his baby?"
And if it was safe to say, maybe there was room for one more conversation before they gave up on each other.
