Who: Wilbur and Jesse. When: Late morning. What: Wilbur hasn’t run into Jesse since he helped her move in. Where: Grocery store. Rating: Low. Status: Complete.
Wilbur didn’t make too many trips to the grocery store. He tried to stock up as much as he could with whatever was cheapest and just make due until he had cash again, and while he was there, he tried to make things brief. It wasn’t that he disliked the place, he just didn’t want to spend a ton of time there, mostly so he didn’t miss a call. Really, he ought to just cave in and get a cellphone, but Wilbur was already riding the line in terms of financial stability.
Maybe he needed to think about trying to get a better job. Or ask for a raise, maybe? He didn’t know how that would go now that most people knew what he was, but shit, it couldn’t hurt. He had a girlfriend now. He had to be respectable.
Thinking of Nancy occupied a lot of his time lately, so much so that he almost didn’t notice Jesse as they passed in the cereal aisle. Wilbur’s cart was full of stereotypical bachelor chow, topped with some luxury items like a family sized box of fruit loops and poptarts.
“Jesse?” Wilbur said, his grin powered by at least a thousand watts, “Oh, shit, lookit you, darlin’! D’yah remember me? S’Wilbur, I helped yah move in. Yer lookin’ gorgeous, if ain’t nobody toldja lately.”
