Everything about Olly said 'outsider,' from the out-of-state plates on his car to the sunglasses he still wore on his nose in spite of the steady approach of twilight. Physically, the change hadn't been so bad; he felt an odd pressure behind his temples that he would eventually identify as 'a headache,' but aside from that, he was fine. Well. Mostly. The odd sensation in the pit of his stomach continued, much as it had done since he'd decided to double Oliver Lane in the first place. The Haze hadn't changed the complicated tangle of feelings that seemed to have settled in for the long-term. He was frowning. Even with the glasses obscuring his eyes, it was fairly obvious that he was reading signs; his head was craned back and, every now and again, he'd pull a smartphone from his pocket and check the map feature. There was a hotel somewhere in this town. Olly knew that he needed to get there, but he wasn't certain if he ought to do that first, or if he ought to handle other problems. Information. Food. Humans ate food, right? And it had been almost two weeks since faux-Oliver had eaten. Could he just walk into the diner and eat? Would he be recognized and expelled? (Even the doppelganger had heard stories about Grey Haven. A safe home for supernaturals was, probably by definition, not hunter-friendly.) Head still tilted to read the sign, Oliver frowned some more. Once upon a time, he'd been decisive. |
