It had been a harrowing few days. He’d come clean to Elisa, he’d lived in the shed, and now things were... not back to normal. That wasn’t accurate. They were no longer falling apart, however, and more had been salvaged from the whole thing that he could’ve dared hope for. He could feel that things were still shifting and resettling, and there might be more trouble, but it was his sincere hope that it wouldn’t be anything as devastating as having his wife tell him to get out. He regretted that Sadie had heard all that she had, especially when she was moving out, and he was even more upset to learn that she’d already moved. He’d wanted to at least see her off, and he’d done neither – the fallout of dishonesty.
The air was cleared now, and the dust was settling, and he owed Sadie an explanation. He had a lot of people to come clean to, but now that he’d told Elisa, didn’t seem as frightening as it had before.
He stopped into Drake’s, and one of the waitresses helpfully directed him out back. Isaac had two gift-wrapped boxes in his arms, one a bit bigger than a shoebox, and the other quite small.
“Sadie,” he greeted when he saw her, smiling, “Do you have some time to talk? I think I owe you an explanation for the past few days.”
