Fred was being too hard on himself. Firstly, it wasn't as if she advertised that she still carried her V card. She didn't say otherwise, but she certainly didn't go around announcing it. And even if he had been ready to shag her on a quidditch pitch, she had been pushing things farther without any help from Fred. For a lot of that ill-fated makeout session, Fred had been following her lead.
Angelina wasn't one for perfect fairytale moments. She was more an action movie sort of girl, the type who would wind up kissing someone in the rubble of an exploded building rather than on the beach at sunset. In a way, this was very appropriate.
She expected him to walk away or something crazy like that. Best friends or no, this was scary and she had the worst case scenario playing in her head. But instead, he pulled her into a hug. He was laughing. Not in a mocking, 'oh you poor thing' sort of way, either.
When he pulled back and touched her cheek, still chuckling, her expression held something between confusion and relief. Her heart was still thumping a little faster than normal, wound up with the fear of rejection she hadn't even really realized she had."Probably," she said, smiling a little as well. "But it kind of fits, yeah? That it pretty much took a dare for us to finally kiss each other."
