Remus frowned deeper. "I don't know what to think, Lily. You've already expressed that you feel like you owe him something, and you've already let him make demands of you that you've seriously considered. After him being back in your life, like, what a week? I find that very concerning. Reverse our positions, hmm? What would you think? I really hope that you wouldn't just sit back and hope for the best." He shook his head. From the outside, it looked completely irrational.
"Listen, you think I'm being all 'rawr' and insisting on having a dick-waving prick fight with James to defend your honor. I wanted to give him a chance to do the right thing. If he were respectful, or, you know, sorry for being an arsehole, he wouldn't be thrusting himself into your life, making demands, stalking you. He is being the same arsehole he has always been. Yet you're insisting he's changed. My experience with his behavior says he hasn't changed, everything you've told me about your interaction with him sounds exactly the same as before. The only options that make any sense is that you're insisting on seeing something that isn't there because he's an old flame, and Harry's father. Or you appreciate his treatment of you. What am I supposed to think? Believe the absolute opposite of all tangible evidence that he has changed and he's a good choice as a lover for you?"
Love may not be rational, but it didn't forebear an individual from behaving rationally despite being in love. Love, in Remus' opinion, should never be reckless, it created an imbalance of power that could never be fully remedied.
