He sighed. "I don't know what to say, Lily." he replied with a shrug. "I don't want it to be like this... but we've already been through this once. I recognize the irony of me telling you not to let him tell you what to do... That doesn't change how I feel about the situation. Nor does it change how willing you were to go for the jugular in defense of him."
To Remus, that didn't bespeak a clarity of mind on the matter. When you were willing to play nasty to get people who cared about you to stop questioning what seem to be rather poor choices. It sounded more like desperation. Barring that... at the very least it showed where her alliances were, when the chips were down. Apparently they were with the man who had left her over something that hadn't, and wouldn't, ever change. Who continued to pick a morally reprehensible path. As opposed to the people who loved and supported her, no matter what.
"But in the end, I suppose that's neither here or there." he shook his head. Closing the ledger he'd been tracking numbers in. He wondered if it occurred to her that the only reason James had let her out of jail was because of their history. Any one else he would have gladly left in that cell, considering how willing James had been to give him the same treatment, because Remus had offended him, much in the same way it sounded like Lily had gotten into it with that pure blood. She wanted to hitch her wagon to that?
"It's your life." He shrugged. "So all considered, that doesn't leave much to be said. I hope it works out for the best. I want you to be happy." He just didn't think this would make her happy in the long run. "And the only thing that's going to convince me he isn't every bit the troll I think he is, is time."
